Just bought New Bren 2 5.56mm
« on: December 26, 2018, 01:32:01 AM »
Men, I just pulled the trigger on a Bren 2 5.56mm 14 inch with bayonet lug. New in box. Paid 2400$ shipped.  I know I probably over payed I am guessing but it?s the one I wanted. I fear buyers remorse. It?s the pistol version. It was made August 2018. Ser# prefix C619xxx. How did I do. Honesty is what I?d like.

You did just fine, it is one of the last of the 300 originals that were imported, that is not the main thing, the most important thing is it is something you wanted!
I?m pretty sure the effect of it in your hands will help if you should have buyers remorse.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you!

Please post back after you?ve had some time to pet it and give us your thoughts.

Thanks Type5.  I have wanted one since I seen it.  I didn?t want to wait for the MS. The MS doesn?t appear to have the beyonet lug.  I also have quite a few 10.5 11.5 barreled AR?s. I wanted a 14-16 inch for deer hunting and Home defense.

Congrats on purchasing your BREN 2!  I bought the same BREN 2, 14" 5.56, added an SBA3 brace and absolutely love it!  Keep us updated on your journey with your BREN 2!

Congrats on the new purchase!  Nobody likes to overpay for things but I bet in 2 years you won't remember it and you will definitely look fondly back on the excitement of having one first.  At worst you paid a few hundred bucks for a unique experience that few others could get.

If you still don't feel better, try reading this year's 2018 ?Festivus? Edition of ?The Waste Report? from Senator Rand Paul.  https://www.paul.senate.gov/news/dr-rand-paul-releases-2018-%E2%80%98festivus%E2%80%99-edition-%E2%80%98-waste-report%E2%80%99

Highlights include: providing over $76 million in stipends to soldiers in the Somali National Army, devoting over $650,000 to develop a drama series to air in Afghanistan, spending up to $1 million on helping support and develop the legislative process in Libya, and setting aside $18 million to support tourism in Egypt.

All that and I can't get a raise for 12 years...
No worries, sir, what you have will probably increase in collector value being it is from a very small set. If we can beat the political process, in 10-20 years it will be worth far more than what you paid!

Welcome to the 300 club! 😀 did you overpay? maybe but that was probably one of The last Bren 2s with the true military pattern receiver. I would (did) overpay a little but it was worth it to me to get the model I wanted especially if it?s going to be a rare item. I got the same one as you and it?s my favorite now so I can live with overpaying a bit.  Congrats on finding one I assumed they all had homes already.

I cannot believe how light it is. So glad I got it.  Who knows if they will nueter the next ones. Happy to be part of the 300.  I can?t wait to put a red dot on or other optic.

OK, I'm confused.  I know that there were 300 brought in, but what are the differences between the initial batch and the ones coming online now (MS?).

It feels lighter beyond the actual difference because it is much better balanced. At least that is my opinion. I plan to keep both my 805's but Bren 2 is amazing, though I am a fan, it is not fan boy talk...

Is the 14 inch barrel, 16 inches with the muzzle device attached? I Was thinking of getting one (once more are imported) and just pinning it so I could just throw a stock on it.

The 14? Bren 2 Barrel finishes out at about 15.75? with the cool looking stock flash hider. It would be easy to pin a 2? US made flash hider and get it to legal length but I dig the flash hider that is on it. I?m looking at things that would add 1/2? to the barrel I found a 1/2x28 to 1/2x28 adapter that gets it to legal length so I can keep the flash hider I just need to come up with another US part.

Thanks for the info TURRICAN, I do like the original muzzle device... hopefully one day there won't need to be a requirement to file for a tax stamp and we can just buy short barreled rifles normally.
