124gr hollow points?
« on: January 11, 2019, 07:46:12 PM »
Can anyone tell me who they think the bullet manufacturer of these "blems" are?  I looked, but can't tell.

https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/bullets/9mm-124-gr-bonded-hollow-point-blemished-new/

Thanks.

They deal with a number of folks like Speer and Hornady I get good "blems" from them all the time.

For that price ($.14/bullet), I?d rather buy Precision Delta?s JHP for $.09/bullet if you buy a package of 2000 bullets or $.11/bullet for a package of 1000. It?s not blemished and free shipping too.

Note: RMR also ships free

Seemed like a smooth addendum to me.  :)

I was going to suggest RMR blems, but at 14 cents per, I think Tdogg must be right. The concave base sort of proves it if the price didn't. Speer Gold Dots they are.

Thanks guys, they sure do look like Gold Dots, but you're right, looks like Precicion Delta's are a no brainer.

Thanks for the help.

If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Just wondering why not the RMR 124 gr. hollow points at $99 per 1K?

https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/rmr-in-house/9mm-124-gr-rmr-jacketed-hollow-point-multi-purpose-round-bullets-new/

I haven't tried those myself.  I have seen mixed reviews on performance, and some people have not liked how short they need to be loaded for CZs, though I have no qualms about that myself.

I doubt their nice new machines are producing poor bullets, so I still want to try them.

As far as recommending to others, however, there are no reservations with PD.

Don't get me wrong. I believe RMR is one of the better companies in the arms business, AND one of the best bullet makers out there.

? However, they've adopted a blunt ogive design for their made-in-house bullets that has to be loaded around 1.050-1.060 in the 9mm CZ. That goes for their plated and jacketed.

? Secondly, Precision Delta will sell their bullets at $89/1000 when you buy 2000. Both PD and RMR ship FREE at volumes of 2000, so that's a fair comparison.

So you can save a little money and load at a slightly more realistic OAL with PD.

I just finished loading 1000 of the RMR 124gr HP bullets and have shot about 400 at the range and during a match. I don't know if they have modified the shape but they do call them new.
I have plunked and shot  these to 1.100 in a CZ75BD, CZ P-07,CZ P-10C and a Glock 19.

They plunk easily and fall out. They load and eject with no problems. I settled on 1.095 just to give a little cushion in different guns but I was never able to load these this long before.

https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/rmr-in-house/9mm-124-gr-rmr-jacketed-hollow-point-multi-purpose-round-bullets-new/

And you can see how "blunt" the ogive is. RMR is purposely trying to increase the full dia portion of the bullet to increase contact area with the lands. They are doing that to differentiate themselves from everyone else with a "me too" hollow point. Other than that, these are VERY well-made bullets with a high degree of finishing and inspection.

However, I also notice in the Description section that they seem to have done expansion testing on this bullet and recommend 1100fps (min) to get the full effect...

Quote
We?ve been testing them for a while in calibrated ballistics gel and results have been very promising. It is recommended that you shoot them at 1100 FPS or more to get reliable expansion for self defense or hunting purposes.

? If I was loading my own SD rounds, then I would sooner trust the Gold Dots. I say this because the Gold Dot testing has been far more rigorous, and being a thick plated bullet (rather than a traditional jacketed) the Gold Dot is going to retain more mass as it expands. At $14/100 the Blems they offer become a really good deal.

? If I was going to load an SD practice round, and try to mimic POI and felt recoil of my chosen SD round, then the RMR bullet described above would do very nicely.
