The sickness has begun....
« on: January 13, 2019, 09:58:51 AM »
My first and second CZ75 purchases happened within about 2 weeks of each other. The first was a CZ75B Omega and the second was a PreB from 1989.

Although the trigger on the PreB isn?t bad it is showing its age and wear. It?s a touch gritty with 2 ?stages? before it breaks. I see there is a pretty big following of the Cajun parts. I?ll probably start there to get some parts to freshen and clean her up.

I?ve found a refinisher close by with a good reputation to re-park the Pre-B. But before I do, is the phosphate finish the ?original? finish or is it possible that it?s a refurb finish??  Just curious. And I see a lot of folks changing the sights on the PreB. I don?t mind them at all except I need to add some color to the rear dots and the front post. Petty simple fix IMO.

I?ve ordered Coco Bolo grips for the omega. That color up against a black finish is gorgeous!!  I?ll replace the plastic grips on the PreB with the rubber from the Omega....an easy upgrade for both. I?ll probably leave the Omega stock for now while I tinker with the PreB and get her up to speed.

Phosphate factory finish (late 80's/early '90's) were I believe provided for MIL/LEO contracts. Nice start on your CZ collection  :)

Commercial finishes as sold in the Rod and Gun clubs in USAREUR in the day were black enamel, blue, and parkerized.  Nothing special in any case but the enamel was the worst.  The parkerization under the enamel was a crude undercoat not the same as the final park job on the others.

KEEP in mind that the CZ 75 was a commercial product.  The Czech military didn?t use them and no east block countries did either.

Look inside a PreB and see why the trigger OTB is pretty mediocre.  The double hook hammer interface makes it a bit complex, and as one can tell these things had crude machining.  So, it is normal to have grit and the camming is what I call 'variable'.  Sometimes it breaks early sometimes late.  Some CZ 75s can exhibit three different breaks in SA.  DA after polishing or 1500 rounds gets pretty good.  With good polishing the DA can beat a Smith and Wesson revolver.

Always remember the whole Warsaw Pact was third world.  It was orderly and somewhat clean depending on country, but third world nonetheless.  So manufacturing was crude.

But the cool factor on the  PreB is great.  They are combat accurate (sometimes more so) and reliable, slim, and they just look so nice with their NON-Beretta round TGs and indented straight serrations, and beautiful lightening cuts.  No goofy hole in the slide.  And, they WERE made behind the iron curtain to Western likes.  Hicap and cool - and of course one of the best feeling pistols ever.

If you want the best OTB trigger, get a SIG.  Want a fat but good looking pistol your service chose, get a Beretta.  But If you want slim/cool/beautiful/feels good, get a CZ75 preB.

I never knew that the Pre B's had a phosphate finish. I thought it was just that really weak enamel finish for the early commbloc guns.

Very true thread title! The front sight on the pre B looks almost unusable it's so small. My old eyes couldn't pick it up.  ;D

Underneath the enamel - it helped them not rust.  It isn't that bad.  It is about function.

It is not as bad as you may think  I shot at speed at the range yesterday and didn't do too bad.  My '88 has a little groove that allows for paint and with the ramp it actually sticks out a bit.  At close range sights are over rated.  My '84 shot well also, and you really cannot see the front sight as I have no paint on it.
