I purchased a Shadow 2 in hopes that IDPA will soon let us use them in competition, but as of now, it has a light on it and fills the role of home defense.

If I were a SWAT or Spec Ops guy, I would look into the Shadow 2 as a carry option, because who wouldn't wan't to carry the best gun that woks for them, especially when concealment isn't a concern.

I would recommend removing the recoil spring shock buffer when not on the range, as to reduce a possible point of failure, should one come apart and lock up the gun during operation.
I have never seen, or had this happen, but it has been a common recommendation with 1911's and their after market shok buffs.

The fiber optic sights work well for me when the gun has a light attached, or I hold my hand held light next to my head. This aids in a natural way to keep the light pointed where i'm looking, and puts your support arm in a blocking position.

I've replaced all my night sights with fiber optic sights, because I found that night sights suck in outdoor dawn and dusk lighting conditions.
Ambient light is bright enough to eliminate the glow from the sight, yet is to low to easily acquire a sight picture from the iron sights.
This is what I have found that works for me, and others will have different preferences, so practice with what you have, to make sure it works for you.

As a side note; I would like to ask what the experienced members on the forum would recommend for the spring set up in the Shadow 2, for super reliable use with all 9mm ammo.

Since the Shadow 2 is designed for competition, I would assume that lighter springs are used, than what one would find in a regular 75B, and heavier springs may be more reliable for primer strikes and overall operation.

Thanks

This doesn't exist.   You tune the springs to the load, and there is a HUGE range of loads.

The biggest issue I see with the S2 for home defense is the fiber optic front sight.

I was just thinking about this the other night while watching a vid where the reviewer brought up the fiber optic front sight and how it changes in different lighting conditions. I've never had a fiber optic on one of my guns, so I never even considered this when I got the Shadow 2. I think what I'll do is get a light for it. I've been eyeing the OLight PL-Mini.

No reason why you couldn't.  The question is, why would you when there's so many better options available?  I prefer something a bit more compact and not as unwieldy as the Shadow 2.  I rotate between an HK VP9SK, Walther PPQ 45 and CZ 75 Compact PCR as my nightstand pistols and am fairly proficient and completely confident in all three's ability to get the job done.  I relegate my Shadow SP-01 and Shadow 2's to range fun and my clubs casual competitions but that's not to say I wouldn't use one for home defense if the situation arose.

Could have gotten a Glock for 1/3 the cost and had the same level of protection.

What you did was buy a Ferrari to do a minivan's job. Sure it's cool but it's a huge waste.

So you're on the CZ Forum to promote Glocks?

It isn't about the level of protection - there are thousands of firearms that can fit the role. If you read my initial posting, I ended up with the Shadow under certain circumstances. Now that I have it, I was simply curious if others use it for HD. Part of my curiosity is because so many describe the Shadow as a "competition" gun, as though that's its only purpose.

So ya, I could've gotten a Hi-Point too instead of "wasting" money on a more "expensive" Glock. "Expensive" is relative.

But I do have the Glock 43 for my carry gun.

So is your question whether somebody here has shot a home invader with a Shadow 2? I don't think you're gonna find many.

I'm curious why you have a carry piece and it's not also your HD gun? Do you come home, put the Glock away and take the Shadow 2 out like you're changing shifts?

I purchased might for self defense exclusively. I carry one daily as a CCW and the shadow 2 doubles as a backup to my long gun for home defense. I have not modified the gun at all since purchase, but if I did, it would be to get rid of the adjustable sights.

I probably wouldn't use any of my Shadows for HD not because they can't fill the role, but because if you do end up using it, say goodbye to it for a while because it'll be trashed around in evidence until the court is done.

I had 90% of my collection stolen a couple years ago. Some never shot and in mint condition. None came back the way they were when they were first found.

That is certainly a disturbing thought!

I've decided not to use the Shadow for an HD gun, which just gives me another good reason to pick up another CZ. I'm considering a P-01, 75BD, 75D, or SP-01 since it already has the night sights.

I would look hard at the SP-01 for home defense.

I bought one for a higher volume range gun but there is no reason you couldn?t also use for home defense. Just put a light on it as the sights might be hard at night. I would seriously think twice about a ccw role as it is crazy heavy for that. Ultimately an alloy version makes get be nice for that.

He was actually a family friend. Into firearms as well. I started getting into firearms around 2013 and never thought I needed a safe. He was remodeling our house and even in rough times for him we gave him a home. He had a falling out with a family member and that lead to the collection being stolen. My neighbor actually them take a rock to the back sliding door and called 911 right away. Police didnt show up until 40 min later. Luckily I have insurance but I was still out 2k for the deductible. To this day evidence still has my 1st gen Phantom and another rifle with an eotech and a longer made geissele rail.

Tough lesson learned. Buy a safe and well... you really can't trust anyone.
