Picked Up an SP-01 Tactical Today - Updated with Range Report
« on: January 27, 2019, 02:21:19 AM »
I can?t wait to shoot it; hopefully Friday.  I wanted a railed version to go with my Omega Convertible so that I could use my new Mantis without using a baseplate adapter. Plus, I?ve read so many great reviews and watched several compelling video reviews, I decided to take the plunge.

Here?s a pic (with my Omega):

One of these is definitely going to be my next CZ, I need a full size 9 to go with my PCR and 97 BD  ;D.  Congrats!

The Tactical was my first ever gun I bought and regretted selling.

My Tactical is my favorite handgun by a wide margin.

I used to have what was called a "Tactical" CZ-75B. It was nothing more that a standard 75B with an OD colored frame. It was one of those I sold (regretabley) when I started my polymer phase. That is over now and I am going out Wednesday to buy either a 9mm 75B  or an SP01 in 9mm. I have a little trouble with heavier guns since I had both shoulders replaced. When You have reverse replacements like I did due to both joint and rotator cuff issues, you lose a lot of strength that is not going to come back. I am OK with 1911's so I hope I can handle the weight of an SP01. If I can't handle the extra 5 ounces I will have to go with the std 75B. I will decide on Wednesday when I get a chance to handle both. My local shop has both in stock.

Shot mine for the first time tonight and all I can say is, wow. This is a box stock gun and it shot flawlessly. I bought this because I got a good deal on a twofor and wasn?t really going to shoot it... maybe not even keep it because I have a Shadow. Now I?m reconsidering that. This may be my new truck gun.

I made it to the range this morning, and I am very, very happy with this firearm. The picture below show my first shots with it; the top of the target are the first 10 shots, standing, two-hands.  The bottom 30 shots are seated and bench rested. I have to say I was pretty excited about shooting this thing, and I think the top target reflects my nerves. Regardless, I?m very pleased with the results.

I won?t go into a long report, as there are many out there on this gun already, but I will restate a couple points that most people know about this gun. Recoil is very modest, due to the all-steel frame/slide, and slightly front-heavy balance. The grip feels like it was made for my hand. The sights are easy to pick up, and well-regulated right out of the box. I can?t wait to shoot it again. I?m pretty sure this will accompany me to every range trip from now on. I did shoot my G19X a little and it, too, is fantastic. But this SP-01 Tactical really feels like you?re holding something special. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys all-steel firearms.

Ammo was American Eagle 124 gr.

I bought a SP01 Tac out of the used counter at my lgs a couple years ago.. $400, I about ripped the pocket off my pants getting my wallet out..Pistol looked barely used..all I've done to it is the usual, removable trigger pin  and  trigger return spring  extended firing pin and springs, 15 hammer spring all from CGW, I ended up with one of the best DA/SA triggers I've ever felt, it's as if someone had polished the internals, but looking in the frame, there's no evidence that the pistol had ever been taken apart..or that anything had been polished,  I don't know if they're all like that, maybe I got lucky.. I don't know..It's a keeper..
