Got this out of a 38 special that hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Joe, I know what you've been through. Lol. Some of the lead that came out of the barrel.

Could remelt and reuse. ;) Clean with a Chore Boy scrub pad? Only one that's all copper, won't scratch the barrel. Must have had a ton of soft lead fired through that for quite a while.

 The pistol was bought used, I know for sure 2000. Don't know how many before. Going to have to break out the Lewis lead removing tool. There's still a couple of spots that are being stubborn. This is what I call fun.

That is real leading. I only get specks out and I thought I should be concerned.

 I broke out the Lewis lead remover, hit it with some isso bore paste and it looks good as new. A lot of work  but it is worth doing.

I bought a S&W 1917 on the cheap, the barrel looked a lot like photos I'd seen of the lunar surface.  The thing shot ok though.  One day I got to poking around at that awful mess in the barrel and decided it was lead.  After much elbow grease and kroil, I started getting lead ribbons out that were kind of like those in the photos.  I wish I hadn't done that.  The goofy pistol shot much better with the lead in there and I'm not sure how long it will take me to put the lead back.  ???

Typically lead transfers to the barrel because the bullet-to-barrel fit is not tight enough to make a good seal. That allows the hot burning gases to surround the bullet and melt the contact areas to the barrel.
