P gun Stippling
« on: February 20, 2019, 09:26:47 AM »
Folks:

Many try to put tape on or stipple the P guns, but here is a quick fix even if you don't have much skill with a wood burner.

Use a small tip to produce a slight touch to each of the little nubs on the backstrap.  Amazing how grippy the backstrap becomes, which is the WORST part of the P 07/09 grip.  No tape needed.

It allows your hand to get a real bite where it needs it and the front strap is not too bad to begin with.  This way you only risk the backstrap and if you mess up its a cheap fix.

That is the one major problem I have with the P07/P09 handguns. The backstrap has good texture right down the middle, but that bare area on each side causes my hand to slip around. Wish they would texture it more like the P10 back strap!

True on the P10.

The P07/09 stippling on the back strap is lame.  Its WAY too slick and yes if it were wider and like the P10 it would be good.

My point it that this is EASY, takes 5 minutes max, and doesn't change the look at all.

Here's my po9 I did about a year-and-a-half ago. Round small tip on my soldering iron, first time I ever did this.
It was a little too aggressive oh, so I took down the sharp edges with 600 grit paper.

Again, for those who don't want to "go too far" because you cannot go back, you CAN stipple the backstrap and even in a way that stays to the pattern, and give you much better purchase on your pistol.

I had to do mine because I have very clammy hands all the time oh, the grip I have now with that po9 stippled is fantastic. You can send it down to the group that you want aggressive or softer.

I would really like to see some pictures of your backstraps so I can really understand what you did!

For the first few years, with my P07 .40 S&W, I just chuckled when people said the grip surface was either too rough or too smooth.  For me it was "just right."

Then, one day at the range when it was in the 90's with humidity about as high, that .40 P07 was slipping all over the place in my hand.  Every 2 or 3 shots I would find myself getting a better grip on it.  Sweaty and slippery as it had never been before.

While I didn't stipple mine I did buy some of those talon grip panels and install on it.  I've not had an issue with it since.

Just saying, everything is "good" till it's not.  Conditions aren't always perfect, sooner or later you may find what has always worked, just doesn't when conditions change enough.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

WRONG PIC.  Imgur is a mess. But... this is what I had already done on the P07.  Not bad, and again, you don't have to do much area.

Sorry for the ridiculously large pic, but Imgur is harder than yuku.

It is pretty amazing how sticky the existing stippling is when you just tweak it with the wood burning tip - this may end up being what i go with.  Again, OTB, it is too lame to help the gun stick in the hand.

I totally agree.  I recently had the front and back straps on my P-07 and P-09 textured and that?s all that is needed.  Both pistols really lock into my hand now and I don?t get any movement while firing.  CZ shooter Mike Pannone turned me into that and I?m so glad that I didn?t have the whole grip stippled.  Saved me $ and I don?t have to have a super rough grip side panel grating against my fat gut now while carrying appendix Hahahaha

Stippling on my new CZ P 10 C is a bit harsh for me.  I didn't want to molest the Gun so, I found a simple answer for myself. A Wilson Golf Glove. No more sore Trigger Finger and no more irritated hand.
