My CZ83
« on: March 09, 2019, 07:31:45 PM »
Looking to learn something about my 83. It is in great shape with all the blueing intact. It has the rounded trigger guard. It is made in Czechoslovakia which is of course on the left side. The only thing it has on the right side is the serial number on the frame and barrel and the CZ logo and the number 87 on the frame. No importers name anywhere. Any info would be helpful.  I really love this little pistol even though I haven?t had it long and haven?t fired it yet.

I can tell you it was made in 87. Great little pistols.  I sold one a couple of months ago and now regret it,  of course. I have heard of the importer markings being stamp on the bottom of the slide rail.

Nothing on the inside of the slide. I did miss a little mark next to the 87 but I can?t make out what it is. I was going by memory but I got it out and checked again. One other thing, the front sight is missing whatever was in the ramp so I ordered a new front sight from CZ USA. Any idea if it will actually work on an older model like this. I also ordered new grips as these have some scratching on them but even though they fit the screw holes were off so i have to return them.

The front sight should fit. Not sure if any changes or updates were done on that end when they changed the shape of the trigger guard.

I bought mine about a month ago and like you really like it a lot!  Mine was complete with some bluing wear which I touched up with cold blue.  The front sight is pinned IIRC so you'll want to be sure that the new one comes with the pin if yours is missing.  I detail stripped my slide to clean the firing pin channel/spring and also the area under the extractor.  Spare magazines were posted here from JesticeArms.com and AimSurplus.  The first are a bit cheaper, the latter include a leather mag pouch.  I also bought a new recoil spring and FP spring from milsurp ...thanks again to this forum.  I also got delivery today of the new black plastic grips from CZ-USA.  Got some work tomorrow spiffing it up.  It is a lot of fun to shoot!!

Congratulations on your new gats! One word of caution: Beware standard magazines with an "mfg cz" stamp and a visible seam - they are cheap knockoff junk, and will require rework to function even somewhat properly. See here for the magazine discussion: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=97087.0

Hiya 007 and thx for your thread, and congrats on your find. I got my 83 from one of the last batches from CZC before they stopped making them and its a great back up and easy to conceal. Never able to hit small groups at 7yards but great, get off me weapon. Having also ordered from cz usa, when I've had a question about if something may or may not fit,you can phone in and ask to speak to a cz gunsmith. To avoid ordering a part that just needs to be returned later. They are prolly still working on ones still in their original five year warranty. Sorry your grips didn't quite fit proper. As nice of a palm swelled rubber they have on other guns, wish marketing woulda made one for the 82/83's. I added the Marchel wood grips, and the several month wait was worth it. Look forward to your range report pics, and avoid steel cased ammo from russia, the mags don't seem to like feeding as well as brass or aluminum cased. Be well.

I just received my new OEM black grips from CZ yesterday and just tried to fit them on my '87 CZ 83.  The screw hole is off by maybe a 1/16" with the grip hole being to the rear.  Anybody have info on which part of the rear of the grip to "ease" to get it moved forward a skosh?  Other than that, mine are going back also.  I'll probably call CZ-USA tomorrow also.

Incidentally, I installed my new FP spring and recoil spring from MilSurp in the FL Keys.  The recoil spring is MUCH tighter when I reassembled the gun.  Have to get it out to give it a run in a few days.

I didn?t want to take a chance of trying to fit mine to the gun in case it didn?t work and then not being able to return them. Luckily mine aren?t scratched super bad but I can tell they are smoother than the new ones. Still love my gun.

There's a thread on here somewhere that someone sprayed their grips with truck bed liner for rubber type feel. I remember they said 2-3 light coats and they loved them. It might just cover any scratches also. Just a thought. Another thought I had was maybe coating the grips with the rubber coating they make for dipping your tool handles in. I'm planning on doing this to a pair so I'll post when I get around to it. I'm thinking maybe tape the back side and dipping them or maybe even brushing it on to get it a little thinner. Being a rubber type coating it should settle enough that you won't see brush marks. The only thing that might be a problem would be adhesion to the plastic. We'll see.

I really like the look of the stock grips. It gives it that old world military look.

If anyone is having problems get stock plastic grips, try the guy I posted in new parts for 82/83. He has gotten me several parts I couldn't find anywhere else. Enjoy
