New owner P10C Optics Ready - How to switch mag release?
« on: March 17, 2019, 08:24:09 AM »
Got a new toy yesterday.  CZ Custom shipped a new P10 C Optics Ready.  This is my first CZ.  Sold a PPQ to get it so I could use a red dot.  The description states the magazine release only takes a few minutes to switch.  Sounded good.  I read the manual and there is no instruction on how to make the switch.  There is a hole on the slick side so I inserted a punch and applied light pressure.  No go.

I looked on YouTube and could only find instruction for the old style ambi switch.  This new switch is reversible, not ambi.

Hopefully one of you have made the switch. Can you help with instruction?

You may have to take out the piece inside the frame to get it out. Apex has  good directions for getting it out.

Holding the piece with needle nose pliers then using a punch to remove the pin.

I?m back from the first range trip.  Hooked up with the gunsmith.  Here?s the procedure:

1.  Place a punch in the slick side hole.
2.  Press with light pressure.  (I pressed too hard)
3.  Pull out the vertical pin with needle nose pliers.
4.  Slide out release and reverse direction.
5.  Take care not to lose spring and plug.
6.  Apply light pressure with punch and reinstall vertical pin.

First 60 shots went well.  No issues.  Trigger is improving.  Slide release required hard pressure using a plastic rod but improved to the point I could release it with firm thumb pressure.  Shot string was tight, about 2? right.  Will correct with rear sight adjustment next trip.  I?m not outshooting my PPQ but it is close enough to call it good.

The optics plate should arrive early this week.  I?ll install the Holosun and report this week.

Got the Holosun installed.  Had to make a run to the hardware store to replace a bad screw that came with the optic plate from CZ Custom.  Sighted in on a rest at 25 yards.  Tight group from the rest.  Not so good once off the rest.  With a two hand hold, I am pulling 2? right at 15 yards.  Saw same pattern with iron sights before mounting the optic.  The trigger is smooth up to the wall then hard stops again before breaking.  I believe this is causing the pattern to move to the right.  I adjusted the optic to compensate but not satisfied.  Looks like a trigger job is needed.

This is a wrap up report.  I stripped the pistol down and polished the wear spots on all the trigger parts.  The wall is now a clean break.  It is not as good as my old PPQ or my Glock 43 with a polish job but is good enough to not affect accuracy.  I also installed an Olight Mini 2 and it is a great fit.  The Holosun 507C is working well on auto during the day but when using with the Olight at night, the Holosun needs to be set on manual brightness so as not to wash out.  I am still waiting for suppressor height sights for the CZ.

If you haven't already, order yourself a CGW tool steel striker. That significantly improved the feel of my trigger. You won't be disappointed.

Also, if you were shooting straight on a rest but not off hand, I'd suggest trying different finger positions. You might just be pressing the gun one way during the break. Also give some of the other backstraps a try. I've found them to dramatically change the way my grip stays consistent through the break.

Good luck!

Vex001.  Thanks for the advice.  I have the large grips on now.  Would prefer even larger for better trigger placement.  I polished the firing pin and will probably stay with it unless it fails.  I?m 72 and my good shooting days are a fond memory.  The Holosun helps but the steady hold is long gone.

I will add suppressor sights whenever they show up and this will be a good pistol for home defense and range fun.
