What is an action on a pistol or any gun. Speciically on CZ75?

Im looking through the CZ manual and it says to lower the hammer to the action but what is that exactly? It also says "or just to the hammer safety thumb" as well, and I dont understand that bit.

On a secondary question, does holding onto the slide as it racks back forward cause any FTF or FTE issues? Even if you could say that the slide is completely forward and wont go further?

oh, a third question.

Should you try to make sure the slide internals are pristine and free of any form of hair or lint? I see .2mm sized bits in the slide but there's only a few of them and its almost uniformly clean. Is that something to worry about cleaning off? They're really tiny.

1. Imperfect translation - manually lower the hammer while keeping your thumb (of your other hand) between the hammer and the firing pin. When confident, you can dispense with the thumb part and gently lower the hammer to the full rest position which is just off the firing pin. Practice with an UNLOADED pistol first until you are quite familiar with the process.

2. Do NOT ride the slide forward. It is unnecessary and may cause failures to chamber and/or eject or extract.

3. Keep your pistol as clean as possible, but don't stress over minute specks. Just wipe it down occasionally and make sure it is lubricated.

Thank you. I've been practicing the fully lower a lot and figured out how to let the tip of my offhand thumb get squished between hammer and rear of slide, and then slowly roll it up out. heard that advice but likely wasnt applying it properly until recently. I was setting the thumb perpendicular and rolling it out but that didnt work too well, but parallel to hammer and tip of pad between really improved the practice.

To your first point - the design of the ring hammer is to allow you to ?pinch? the hammer between your offhand thumb and forefinger. WITH AN UNLOADED PISTOL, practice lowering a fully cocked hammer after pulling the trigger in this manner.
- point pistol in a safe direction, and confirm pistol is unloaded
- manually cock the hammer, maintaing muzzle dicipline
- grasp hammer with your weekhand thumb and forefinger, maintaining muzzle dicipline
- pull the trigger, only allowing the hammer to rest against the rear of the slide as you gently guide it there - while maintaining muzzle dicipline
- repeat until you are comfortable with this process of lowering the hammer

If not fully confident doing this add the middle finger between the hammer and firing pin like you did with your thumb

     Hiya toysthatgobang and thx for the thread. When I purchased my first handgun I found it very educational,sociable,and built some confidence to sign up at my local gun range for an introduction to handguns. Its quite affordable,the instructors have been certified, introduce different types of handguns,different types of ammo,loading and unloading procedures,and live fire exercises to demonstrate learning. The feedback really helps the initial habits to be safe. As its a class setting you get to meet folks that you will continue to see in the future either on the range or advance classes. Frankly, its the only school I ever looked forward to going to. Be well.
