Expensive day at the indoor range
« on: March 23, 2019, 09:40:23 PM »
Granddaughter and her boyfriend came to town. They wanted to shoot her new S&W 642-2 and he wanted to shoot the sig 2022 I sold him a while back plus a Glock 30 I recently acquired with him in mind. He likes .45acp.
The revolver proved too snappy for her. However, my wife's Sig P238 was really liked. I bought her a Sig P238 Nightmare. I will add her revolver to my collection.
While buying the Sig, wife and I saw Springfield 1911 RO. Wife liked the feel, which surprised me. Salesman handed us a box of 20 rounds and told us to try it out. Wife shot it well.  I did ok.
I bought it. It came with 5 mags, paddle holster, dual mag holder, case. Price was $625.

Some days cost a bunch.  As long as everyone is safe and happy then it was all worth it.
All of life’s journeys begin by putting one foot in front of the other.

I've had a Springfield R.O. in 9mm for a number of years. My favorite 1911! Ran it in some IDPA matches and now it's my steel challenge gun.
It ran flawlessly for years, then a couple of months ago (at a steel challenge match, of course) it started light striking the primer. Turns out the firing pin spring weakened. This is compounded by S.A. using a titanium firing pin for drop safety as it's a series 70 pistol. A steel firing pin and new spring from Ed Brown had it slinging lead like it was new.
My opinion, but in the under $1K 1911 market, I think S.A. is at the top of the heap.

Congrats on the new hardware, the Springfield sounds like a fair deal with the mags and accessories.  I don't really think that one can put a price on protection for the family!

Not a home defense firearm in my book. Just one of those pistols that just fit. And seeing the wife shoot it pretty well was a bonus. I have two 1911s in addition to this including a 25 year old RIA government model and a Taurus stainless-like 9mm. Both have been dependable shooters.  Expect the same out of the Springfield.
It was also nice to see my granddaughter of 28 identify a self defense firearm the she liked. She was pretty good with the 40 s&w sig 2022.

Maybe an expensive day, but that's also relative- quality time shooting together, buying guns that fits them and that they really want, going home safe and happy. There are worse ways to spend lots of money...
