CAI 2008 VZ58 on the way*****arrived today****
« on: March 24, 2019, 11:06:22 AM »
I have a VZ 58 from Century inbound with bayo, sling, tool kit and 2 mags. It has the beaver puke on it as well. Curious what are some of the gotchas and swaps that you guys are doing with these fellas.

I swapped the folder mine came with for the beaver barf stock. Much more comfortable for long distance shooting. Never had the trigger gremlin but still had ForcedMarch tab my carrier. Not sure he still does those.

I mounted picatinney rails on the top & bottom of my beaver barf handguards for a red dot & a bipod with a quick disconnect mount. Just some knockoff G3 rails I had but took a lot of work to get them to fit, I?d recommend looking at the Bonesteel handguard if you need rails.

The grip is a bit on the short side. I just replaced mine with a Fab Defense grip. Robin Grips makes a 3/4? longer version of the factory grip but not in beaver barf, just polymer.

I replaced my slant brake with a cone type flash hider I picked up from eBay.

- Wrap the folding stock with padding and paracord
- Tabbed carrier
- CNC warrior brake/flash hider
- Military surplus gas piston
- Bent down the right hand trigger spring to lighten the pull.
- Drilled holes in hand guard to vent heat, then added an angled fore grip
- Switched out to Ronin pistol grips for 922r buffer -- taller, but narrower
- Added a peep sight to the factory ladder sight
- Added a stock extender and peep sight behind the receiver (best mod so far for my eyes)

If you had to do one thing and one thing only, then replace the slant brake.  It tames the beast significantly.  A tie for first place is to tab the carrier.  You may or may not need to do so.

A lot of people replace the hand guards with railed versions.  There's also a rail adapter for red dot/reflex sights that replaces the rear ladder sight.  Lots of options for replacing the stock, although I really like the factory folding stock.  I did have to repair each of mine with modified hardware as the fragile acorn nuts on them eventually stripped out, despite using loc tite.

For my eyes, the peep sight in the rear ladder sight improved target acquisition speed significantly, but did nothing for longer range accuracy.  Placing a peep sight behind the receiver nearer to my eye cut my 100 yard groups in half.

Do a google search on this site using the above key words to get more info.

Although I had no Gremlin Issues with mine, I still had Forced March Tab my Bolt Carrier.
Most of my other Mods have been on the Cosmetic side.

Thanks, just trying to give a couple examples of what you can do, plus some upgrades that seem worth it to me.

Thanks, yours is looking good, too. It seems like there are as many ways to mod them as there are people who own them.

Well she arrived today!! I?ll get some pics up in another thread.

I was happy to find that the carrier is already tabbed. Anyone recognize the work?? Was this done by century or someone else??

Gen 1 Centurys were tabbed.  Then Czechpoint sued them and production was shut down for a couple years before restarting in 2014 or so IIRC.

There are lots of resources here, and the numbered pages at the bottom are ordered chronologically -- I think from last post.  Some receiver differences too on the early ones too.

For searching, try google: "site:czfirearms.us search words", no quotes.
