Just ordered - CZ75B, .40 S&W
« on: April 01, 2019, 12:09:02 PM »
Been thinking about it for awhile.

Occurred to me yesterday that a P07 in .40 S&W might be better for what it may become but after all of a few hours going back and forth I went with the CZ75B.

CZ75B Pros -
I like the feel of the steel framed guns
I'm more familiar fiddling with them and replacing parts, etc.
Lots of neat stuff from Cajun Gun Works and CZ Custom for them
Ambidextrous thumb safeties
Easy to put a set of CZ85 slide release levers on one (like I did my Compact project a couple years ago).
I can get some 14 round magazines for it (similar capacity to the P07's with the +2 bottoms on the mags).
More/better/durable refinishing options for the complete pistol (wouldn't satin nickel be sweet?)

CZ75B Cons -
Have to buy .40 S&W magazines
Holsters are a bit funny (to find vs. the 9MM versions - or so I read here on the forum)
If I go with an RMR at some point it takes an additional plate/expense

P07 Pros -
Already have magazines (P07 for 12/14 and P09 for 15/17)
Easier to install the RMR
Easy to put a set of sticky grip panels on it (the glue on kind)
Already have holsters for it
Probably wouldn't need as much to give it a sweet trigger (none of my other three have been more than 3.5 lbs. SA nor more than 9 DA).

P07 Cons -
Can't have a consistent/durable color/style finish (other than maybe black???)
Can't convert to SAO someday if I feel the need.
Harder/more expensive to convert to .357 SIG someday (if I get the urge).

Pictures when I get it (hopefully won't be more than a few days.

Now, to order three additional magazines for it (just the start - no matter how cheap they are to buy, it's only a part of the cost once you add in the accessories/upgraded parts/holsters, etc.)

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Though i shoot very little 40 S&W i have always liked the 75B 40. I am not sure if this helps at all but holsters for the CZ75 SA and CZ75 Shadow should work with a 75B 40.

One thing that i question about the model and a few other CZ models is the absence of a swappable mag release. I am curious why this is not standard on all 75 variants. The 75B 40 has ambi safety levers but a left side only mag release much like the older 85 B's and 85 Combat models.

Gratz on the new CZ M1A4ME a fine choice indeed. May it shoot flawlessly.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Ordered 5 magazines from Greg Cote, LLC.

Two 12 round Mecgars and three 14 round Mecgars.  Got a note they've already shipped so I may get them before the pistol.  We'll see.

I just stepped in the house after a little range time with my 97B and 75B in 40 S&W.  The 75B has a little CZC love in it and it a joy to shoot.  I'm sure you will not regret buying the 75B.

Greg ships crazy fast. The weight of the 75B .40 should reduce the felt recoil a good bit too.

Same here.  Got 2 12s and 2 14s from Greg Cote delivered Saturday.  75B 40 shipping tomorrow.  Eager to get it in and shoot it.  Might order another one while they're available if I like it as much as I am anticipating.

I have some plans for it.

Been looking through the CGW, CZ Custom and CZ USA websites for possible parts/spares/upgrades.

I'll shoot it some first.

I'll buy some parts for what I consider part of the upgrades I want to do to it.  I'll look in the spare parts bins in the garage to see if I have one or two specific pieces.  Other parts will have to wait till after I've shot it and till after I've asked some parts/upgrades related questions.

In the end I'll have as much or more in the parts/upgrades than I paid for the pistol.  One of the reasons I don't do much with the Camaros these days.

I keep telling my wife, "Babe, this is the last one."  Then I tell her, "Hey babe, I bought another pistol."  I'm pretty fortunate as she always says, "Good.  I'm glad you got a pistol you wanted."  I'll have the pistol longer than she'll have te dress, shoes, etc. she ordered today.

You handload for 40?  Ordering a caliber conversion for my RL550b with probably Redding dies to start 40 cal.  Thinking WST and maybe some 700X that I have way to much of.  SNS 180 gr FP NLG will be my bullet and hoping someone can help steer me to something around 900 fps for target/practice.

I use a 135 grain hollow point for carry.

I shoot some of those for practice but my main practice load is a Missouri Bullet Co. 140 grain (lead or coated) bullet using Herco powder.

When my dad passed away my youngest brother had no desire to reload so I got his powder (some day i need to get the primers and shot/shot cups, too).  Lots of shotgun powders are good pistol powders.  I got Red Dot, Blue Dot, Herco, some IMR 4 digit number powders and a few others.  So far I've used a lot of the Blue Dot and Herco.

My 135 grain hollow point/Blue Dot load shoots to the same POA/POI out to 12 yds. or so as the 140 grain MB bullet with Herco powder, so that worked out pretty well.

I've bought some 180 grain lead and 165 grain hollow points for the .40 but haven't gotten around to trying to develop any loads for those bullets yet.  Picked up some more/different powder, too.  Tite Group and some AA powder (don't remember if it was #7 or #9).

Magazines came in.

Two 12 round Mecgars - got out the maglula and loaded them up with 12 rounds, no issues.

Three 12 round Mecgars - first one took 13 ?? rounds.  I'd already grabbed the second magazine to load.  I got 13 rounds into it and decided to force the 14th round.  The maglula didn't break and I don't know why.  Man, the way the "finger" bent getting the 13th round down far enough to get the 14th in was just crazy.  I loaded up the third 14 round magazine and watched it bend again.  I went back to the first one and forced a 14th round into it.  Maglula survived.

Now they can sit, loaded up, till the pistol gets here and I get to the range.

I'll bet you there is no way, possibly short of just slamming the snot out of the magazine, to get it to insert on a slide forward reload.  There's just no give there at all getting 14 rounds into those magazines.

Hiya M1A4ME and thx for your thread. Congrats on pulling the trigger on the 75b,and having owned witness and cz polys and combo polys have a preference to the all metal platforms, not that I work on them, just more enjoyable to shoot. Its been years since a mate lent me a .40cal for a few weeks, the ease I could mistake the 9mm for the 40 cal just kept me away from owning one.
Its nice to hear Mrs. M1A4ME showing support as well. And generally speaking most all our "stuff" will be here long after we are gone. Glad to hear you got your mag springs at work before it arrives, and glad you didn't break that uplula. Having several reg and a couple of Den's cadet modified ones,I get careful and some times don't put that 26th round in my shadow or TS extended mags. Which reminds me to ask input on why do my TS mags cost 130 and same rd count shadows cost 60. Yes the TS are beefeer, the shadows slimer but also have a thick rubber end. I don't see where the 100% more price comes from. Be well.

Picked it up this afternoon.  I mostly have CZ Compacts of one type or another, a Pre B CZ85 and the P07/9 guns.  This one is definitely different and I like different.

Rail runs the full length of the slide (yeah, nothing knew to anyone that owns one but it's the only one I have like that.)
Full length, plastic, guide rod.  That's not too common on full size CZ75 types with no light/laser rail is it?
Hard plastic grips (will have to go, I like the soft rubber ones like come on the Compacts.)
Ambidextrous thumb safeties, like the CZ85's.
Factory target was only a 3 shot group.  All the other new ones I've bought, even one that was used, had 5 shot group targets on the paper.  Oh, 3" group, for those 3 shots, at 25 meters.

And one difference I've already "corrected."  I keep hearing about the storage/shipping protectants put on CZ's at the factory but I never see it on a new CZ pistol.  I've bought about 15 CZ pistols in the last 7 or 8 years (two or three used, the rest new) and this is the first one I've seen all "gooped up" with something inside and ouside.  A clear/amber looking stuff that is real stringy/gooey.  It was inside/outside.  May still be some inside.  We'll see if I get around to adding/upgrading parts at some point.  I got all I could see/reach wtih wiping cloth, tooth brush, cleaning rod.

2018 pistol with a Feb. 2018 target.

After cleaning, lubing and reassembling (dirty barrel was the quickest thing to clean, only took two patches.)

Slide with the goo on the rails and some smears of it on the bottom/front.  Had some on my hands by then, from looking at the pistol.  Felt waxy on my hands, not really sticky.

Recoil spring/guide.

You can see smears of it on the barrel/chamber area.  It was in the locking lugs of the barrel and the front outside surface of the barrel, too.

Look where the stuff was under the thumb safety.  The thunb safeties were/are very stiff.  I was working them on/off over and over and when I stopped I saw all the stuff that had run out (between me lubing it and then working the safeties on/off.)  Wiped it off on both sides and worked the safeties some more and had to wipe the stuff off again.  I may have to strip it down again and go outside and squirt a can of carb. cleaner on/in/through it to try to soften up and blow it out.

In case you can't tell, I'm happy, so far.  It's different looking and I may be able to make it even more of what I like before I'm done.

Now I gotta go shoot it....

Mine is being delivered to my FFL dealer tomorrow.  Going to shoot 200 rounds of factory UMC tomorrow afternoon then install the EZ 9/40 sights and CGW thin G10 grips over the weekend.

Be sure to field strip it, inspect it and lube it prior to hitting the range with it.  Do what you can to make the first trip "perfect."  It's for the memories.

Yep.  Already have patches and FP-10 in the range bag for after picking it up.  Thanks.
