Well, my friend had gone shooting with me the other day with the FDE P-10C and the P-10S, and she'd had what I figured might be limp wrist jams, so I decided to take them both down to the line myself. Ok, so it was a cheap excuse to go shooting... Along came the Trash Panda, The Cheapest AR15 in The World, for, well, why not? You, see, that last range trip, as we were cleaning up, I walked out to retrieve T.U.B. and found this little poop laying in the dirt.
By this time nobody was left around, just the two of us, and I couldn't remember who might have been using it , so I took it to give it a new home, before a brass rat snagged it for a few pennies recycling towards fresh meth. Well, I found an old Thugly stand in the garage, and after hammering the ends flat and bending it in slightly, I had this.
But the square holes in this little poop were a full half inch across, so I needed carriage bolts with that half inch to countersink...however, I also need chain that those giant bolts could FIT through...can you tell I didn't really think this one all the way? I did stop at buying two short ends, and bought one long one in case of shrinkage on one end or another.
Looks rather silly, doesn't it? But challenging! So, off we went.
The P-10C and S worked fine, so out went this little poop to 75 yards, as far down as I could go on that line, and out came the red dot only Trash Panda, the worlds cheapest AR. I fired one, missed, fired another and...
HOLY GARBANZO BEANS, LOOKIT FLY!!!
Yep, it flew right up of the hooks and landed in the dirt. The other two gentlemen shooting were quite understanding, and I went down to find this pile laying in front of the stand...I swear I heard a giggle.
But what did I hit?
Tough chain.
Ok, eough fooling around - I choked the chain up to severely reduce swinging, (no swingers here, boy!), and tried again. Results were...mixed. From kneeling braced I averaged 1 hit on SOMETHING out of 5. Oddly enough, from standing I hit 3 out of five, got figure. With the short chain swinging was well under control but dagnabbit that's a teeny target at 75 yards...
If you notice the chain is shorter on the right than the left, well, 5.56m soft point seems to cut through mild chain steel like a hot knife through butter. Who knew, right?
Final score...and do look at the lings in the upper right corner...
Considering the divots in the edges, not sure if AR500 steel or not. I will use this as a scoped rifle target at 100 yards or further back... yes the link that LOOKS like it's shot through is still intact and working just fine. I do have a spare 2 foot of anchor chain if need be.
Now, the INTERESTING part of the day. One of the gentlemen shooting seemed to recognize me from a YouTube channel, but not mine. I made conversation and it turned out he's a CZ guys too, old school style retired LE from out of town. Nice gentleman, showed off some of hie VERY nice toys, and I let him run a mag through the P-10S. He said after that he would have to re think CZ poly pistols - he cleaned a duelling tree at 15 yards with little effort. I gave him the forum addy, hope he drops by!
All in all, not a bad way at the range, but, there really aren't may BAD days at the range, are there?
