40 S&W 180 Hi-Tek NLG w/WST
« on: April 22, 2019, 02:13:02 PM »
Have Dillon caliber conversion kit and Redding Pro dies on the way to load SNS 180gr FP NLG bullets to shoot from my 2 new 75B 40s.  Using a Dillon 550B and wanting to use WST. Hoping for 900 fps neighborhood for range/practice.  Thinking 4.5gr starting and work up.  Anyone loading WST with the SNS or maybe Blue or Bayou 180s?  Curious where my OAL will end up.

When I had a P07 in 40, there were no OAL issues, such as the 9mm commonly displays. It won't hurt to run some tests, but you'll probably end up at the OALs in your load manuals.

You see the 40 is unheard of in Europe. It's a USA-only thing, mainly due to the FBI and LEO use. So the chambers are a lot more generous.

4.4 gr of wst with the sns 180 FP loaded to 1.14 OAL got me 864 fps with 9 SD. this was in a p07. Hope that helps.

My p07 did not like the 180s and prefers my 155 swc bullets. Groups were pretty large. Now my glock 22 prefered the 180 with hp38. Good luck with your search.

My load for CZ TSO (5 inch barrel) was that exact bullet and powder.

I wasn't able to go much longer that 1.135" OAL with the SNS 180gr RNFP.

1.135" OAL
SNS 180gr NLG RNFP
4.2gr WST
Avg 920fps (165.6PF)

Yeah, it has a pretty high shoulder. Like to get throat opened a bit on the 75 barrel but not sure who can do it. I sure can't.

Dies are installed and adjusted.  1.13" length seems to be max for this bullet.
