Trouble deciding between 75 Compact, PCR and PO-1
« on: April 22, 2019, 03:24:04 PM »
I've been around on this until it makes my head spin. Cannot decide between the 75 compact (like that it's all steel but maybe that doesn't matter much), the PCR and the PO-1. Kinda leaning towards the PO-1 but would like to hear the Pro's and Con's of those that have them. This will be a carry gun and also shot at the range. I currently have a 75B Omega relatively new with @ 500 rounds down the pipe and a 2006 RAMI that I've carried a lot and has thousands of rounds through it. I will not use the light rail of the PO-1 but can see the extra weight helping to offset muzzle rise. This would be  a lot easier if I could handle and shoot these models but all "the listed dealers" around here don't stock them. They are listed on CZ website as authorized dealers but their response is "we can order one for you". No kidding I can order one too.  ::) So let's here the likes and dislikes including mods that you feel need to done with the respective models. I'll have to do what I've always done with CZ's, buy one sight unseen. Even the local gun shows never seem to have anything but the occasional 75.

If you are going to conceal carry this future decision without a light , i would suggest the PCR. The smaller dust cover around the muzzle makes it the holster ride more comfortable.

I have a P-01 and a PCR that are my carry guns. They're both nice and shoot almost identically but I will never put a light on the P-01 so if I had to choose between the two I would pick the PCR. The NSN is kinda cool on the P-01 but I don't know if it makes it any better quality wise ( I'd like to know if it does). I think the Loaded chamber indicator on the PCR is nice but I don't care for the Slide stop / takedown pin sticking so far out on the right side of the frame. The slide stop / release on the PCR is also a little shorter so it's a little harder to reach with your thumb. I believe CGW sells the P-01 slide stop / takedown pin for $35 and it's supposed to fit the PCR and won't stick out so far on the right side of the frame ( someone can correct me if I'm wrong) I will be changing mine out. the sights are a little different and the PCR has a different milled area where the rear sight sits, no big deal to me. I bet you'll be happy with either one. Good Luck

I've been carrying my PCR for 10 years now and I feel it is the perfect handgun in every way. For me anyway. Many guns have tried to take her place but none have been gun enough to rise to the occasion.

I have a pcr and p-06 as carry guns. The pcr is more comfortable to carry IMO. I do carry the p-06 about 75/25 % to the pcr as I dont mind the extra width at the muzzle. As mentioned above, I replaced my pcr slide stop with a p-01 version and definitely prefer that setup. The pcr is my favorite gun and will never leave my possession. It is the perfect carry gun IMO.

Going a little against the grain here, BUT.......I would go with the P01, I've owned several P01's and a couple of PCR's over the years and will say the P01 is slightly heavier (just a couple ounces, negligible), shoots a bit smoother (w/less muzzle flip), has the "option" of adding an accessory due to the rail, and if being carried OWB is effectively no different than the PCR.  If carried IWB the P01 does take up a slightly larger space but not a deal breaker by any means.  One plus to the P01 is the longer flatter side (due to the rail) which helps for those that use thumbs forward type grip.....which I prefer so it's a bigger plus to me. Just a different perspective to think about....let us know what you decide!  :)

If you have to pick one, get the P01.  You have more options, lights, etc.  Just my two cents.

I have a P01 and P07, both with rails and Omega triggers.  I haven't shot my P01 much because I ordered some items from CGW that just arrived.

I'll be honest, I *really* like the P07 - and  I generally dislike plastic guns.  It's a great shooter, easy to carry, and fits my big mitts pretty well.

I'm not trying to muddy the waters but I wouldn't discount the P07 just because it's at home in the Tupperware drawer.

It?ll come down to personal preference. I have both a P01 Omega and a PCR. Both work for me and I rank them equally great.

Comes down to, do you want the option of attaching a light or not and perhaps a little more options for aftermarket rear sights. The PCR has less options for aftermarket rear sights imo.

Regardless you can?t go wrong with either

If you get the compact, budget for a set of grips to replace those plastic jobs.  My PCR came with nice rubber grips (but I bought aftermarket anyway).

A friend's P01, shooting tight-for-me groups many moons ago is what turned me on to CZ.  Decided on the PCR.

Does your muzzle really flip significantly with any of these?  I must admit, I do like the looks of the compact's slide.  No front serrations, no LCI, no concave rear serrations.  All steel would chrome or NP3 nicely.  Hmmmm...maybe I need one.  I do have some extra grips...

Which one of your kids to like the best? As long as you get your hands on one of them. The P-01 for the night stand/home defense and PCR for carry. And each could do either just fine.

I have a 75B Compact and a P01.  I?ve looked at the PCR plenty of times and almost plunked cash down a few.  For me, since I carry OWB, the rail on the P01 makes little difference in how it carries, so I?ve never seen much personal value in the lack of a rail.  The PCR sights and LCI have always put me off a bit as well too.

The 75B compact is very nice but does come with a bit more weight.  Given a proper belt and holster, that weight is almost insignificant.  The weight does improve the feel when shooting it though, but not that much.  The aluminum frames on the P01 and PCR deaden the felt recoil a bit similar to the effect of a poly gun but without the flex.

If you don?t carry IWB, the PCR seems to bring little to the table for the cost of fewer rear sight options and an overly long slide stop pin.  I?ll probably end up with one some day but for now, my P01 fills that role quite nicely and can do nightstand duty with a light if I?m traveling and don?t have the dedicated nightstand gun with me.

I have a CZ75 Compact I carried for a couple years.  Not a thing wrong with it.

I replaced it with a P01 Omega.  Why?  Two reasons.  First is that one of my around the house pistols is an Urban Gray P01 with a tiny PL Mini on it.  I don't carry that pistol - except to get out of the chair and go to the door when someone I don't know is ringing the bell.  Figured it would be a good idea to have my around the house pistol and a carry pistol that were the same.

The second reason is there is just something about the feel of the P01 grip vs. the other CZ's.  Every time I picked up that Urban Gray P01 I noticed it felt different - and good.  The only difference is the grooves down the front/back of the grip frame.  But I can feel it and I like it.

The weight is no big deal to me.  Tight leather belt, kydex/leather IWB holster and I feel the need to confirm I have that pistol there every so often.  They elbow bump to the hip/side that confirms the pistol is still in the holster.  I actually can't tell the pistol is there most of the time.  Put it on, wear it, get used to it, the weight won't be what you notice.  Digging in to your ribs if the set up it wrong?  In the car absolutely.  On the lawnmower?  If I lean to the right for some reason.

Consider whether you want decocker (P01/PCR) or safety (CZ75 Compact or P01 Omega with the safeties).  Consider whether you want ambidextrous decocker levers or safeties (P01 Omega).  Consider whether you may want a light or laser at some point (P01, standard or Omega).  Consider if you might want to convert it to SAO someday (CZ75 Compact).

Don't worry about the weight, if you really intend to carry the pistol.  If you only feel the need to carry for a couple hours once a week you probably won't find any of them comfortable.  You've got to get used to it.  Anything you aren't used to is different/uncomfortable.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I love my PCR... it?s like cheating. I?m better with it than I am with my sp-01... the gun just points and shoots like no other gun I have... I?ve been carrying it for over a year + now in an IWB Black Arch holster. Combination works great. The decocker is perfectly located too... SIG should take note of that ;-)

Now having said all that I would like to have to have a PO1 cause I just really like the looks of it so I understand your pain on deciding
No time like the present...
