CZ 82 restoration
« on: April 22, 2019, 06:52:34 PM »
CZ 82 restoration - I used to be very active on this forum but sold my 82s and stop posting. I have sold a number of guns that I thought I would never shoot but i missed my 82.
I found a beat one cheep and as I have restored them before I though this was a great way to get back into a CZ 82. I have restored a number of these in the past and they turn out very nice.
I think they look the best when blued and with wood grips.

here is a link to the process I used. I talked with Sailorcurt and he put it on his website. he has great posts about CZ 82s how to parkerize them and how to blue them. link below.

http://sailorcurt.com/2011/03/cz-82-success-story-and-guest-post.html/

here are pics of the one I am going to restore. It came with 3 real CZ mags the thin base plate ones.
If anyone would like me to post pics as I go through the steps of the restoration let me know and I will do so

I am not going to go through the breakdown of the 82 as that can be had elsewhere

here are some pics of the slide after it was sanded and I applied some paint stripper to get off the paint that remained. and then pics of the slide blued.

Many of the parts of the CZ 82 are blued by CZ (the trigger guard, trigger bar and the trigger. Hammer thumb safty ...) so you only have to blue the the frame and the slide. I would only reblue the small parts if they don't match the blued frame and slide.

I am going to try and leave the auto safety and disconnector / ejector intact as i don't need to strip them.
frame broken down.

I'm subscribed to this. I didn't realize this kind of post was going on in places other than the gunsmithing forum.

Please post more pics. I am curious whether the Bluing matched.

I wanted to not to break the frame down all the way or remove the sear and sear spring but it needed to be done to do the refinish and do to issues getting the sear spring in I set this aside for a while. Every once and a while I would try and get the spring in but did not make a real effort to finish this project until after new years. So that said the gun is back togeather and new grips installed so here are pics of the blued gun. I have done 3 of these CZ 82s and I do like the look of them blued with wood grips. I don't think this one was my best job. I added pics of the other two 82s I had done in the past a couple of posts below this one.

That's exactly what I'd like to do. Wood grips and slow rust blued

Ouch!  Is the manufacturer standing by their grips?

Ive seen several comments about wood grips cracking on 82s, on other forums as well. That's whats kept me from investing in a set. I have an 82 that I picked up which someone had already stripped and (evidently) cold blued. Its a functional finsh, but no where near as nice as the examples posted above. So, Im going to try and re-do it. I wish VZ grips would make grips for the 82.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Sportsnut it's had to tell from your photo, but are the grip inserts in place?
They're short little metal tubes which fit inside the screw hole of the grip.
They prevent from tightening the screw too much and/or recoil impact.
One member fixed his cracked grips, with cyanoacrylate (CA) glue.
I research a bit and found wood pen crafters use it for finishing and strengthening their wood blanks.
I chose Starbond EM-02. Their claim was deep penetration, due to its viscosity just above water.
I finished my grips with 3 coats front and back sides.
You apply thin coats with your finger.
HINT: Use disposable nitrile gloves. I kind of found out after beginning, that body moisture on your fingers accelerates the CA curing process.
