The New Steyr - If My P-10F and P-09 Made Love..
« on: April 26, 2019, 02:00:34 AM »
Am I the only one that thinks that the Steyr A2 MF looks like it's the lovechild of my polymer CZs?  ;D

It should be available stateside in June. Gonna get one. Looks like Robocop's gun haha..

I love my Steyr L9-A1, but I'm not too sure about the MF.

One way to describe it..... The Steyr M9 is like Jon Snow, it's a bastard that nobody wants, but he's the best. ::)

Practical Shooter - Nailed it! Haha

CZ Fanatic - What makes you say that? I don't know much about Steyrs, but it would seem the new one retains all the best qualities of your pistol, but adds a much-improved (and modular) grip. If the A1 grip is perfect for you, it probably wouldn't make any sense to get the new one. But for a dude like me with big mitts, the modularity (similar to a VP9) is a huge plus.

I'm confused-- I thought the Steyr M9 has been sold state-side for the better part of a decade now?

Or is this just a new generation?

It's funny. After 19 years of unknown service, it goes to Gen 2, with magazine well slightly flared, side and back grip inserts with better texturing, and serial number going from the frame to the chassis, in case they want to sell different color lower frames.

Steyr is way too late to the party with these "improvements."

I'm excited to try one out. I've never shot a Steyr.

CZ only came out with the P-10 a couple years back, so I guess they could technically be considered 'late to the party' as well..

I'm looking forward to a 'polymer 9mm death match' between the new Steyr and my P-10F (which I love) and keeping the winner.

Hiya and thx for the thread WWG1WGA. I guess I hadent seen the p-09 slide up close I like its lines,a lot. Suppose I long for the olden days when one didn't need RMR optics, and faux suppressors, there were no guns fornicating, and you couldn't lose a death match cause the battery went out in your gun. lol Be well.

Yeah.. the slide on the P-09 is a thing of beauty.. no doubt.

And I agree about the lovely, reliable simplicity of the olden days.

My bedside gun is, and will always be, my grandfather's Colt .45.

A) Because of nostalgia

and

B) Because it just works

Had a Steyr A1 a few years back. Hoot to shoot, but was picky on the ammo. Hope this new one works best. Also, the Steyrs always had that weird grip angle design. Way before the CZ plastics came up with one.

An M9-A1 is my most recent acquisition. So far I have 435 rounds fired without any malfunctions - not even a failure to hold the slide open on an empty magazine. (I ride the slide stop/release on my P10C unless I remember to adjust to a low thumb hold.) Ammo has included 124 grain American Eagle FMJ, Sellier & Bellot 124 grain FMJ, 147 grain Remington Golden Sabre, 124 grain HST +P, Winchester 124 grain FMJ NATO, Remington-UMC 115 grain FMJ, Federal Hi-Shok 147 grain and the dirty old Wolf 115 grain FMJ steel case.

I have high confidence in this weapon and greatly appreciate its build quality. Hey, it was impressive enough for Sig to steal it! https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/6169211/steyr-arms-inc-v-sig-sauer-inc/

holidaypf - Thanks for the report on your A1 and especially the link!

I scrolled through the summary and it was actually quite fun looking up the different patents.

The case seems to be focused primarily on Patent #6260301 which refers to the trigger housing unit (if I read that correctly.. I have screaming newborn and a dog vying for my attention at the moment haha).

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=10&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=6,260,301&OS=6,260,301&RS=6,260,301

If it's deemed that Sig infringed on the patent, I wonder how that would play out..

Fascinating stuff!

BTW, per Steyr, the A2 should be available to U.S. retailers 6/1
