Red Dot Advice Please
« on: April 30, 2019, 04:19:31 AM »
I have a Century VZ2008 which runs great, but it has the dreaded askew barrel, or perhaps sight base. Either way the post is adjusted all the way over which makes it slow on the pick up. I finally ordered a upper hand guard from CNC Warrior and am thinking rather than lower 1/3 cowitness I would like the dot just over the hood, otherwise I may still find myself instinctualy   trying to center it. So my question is whether or not anyone has any ideas about Red Dots that put me there, or perhaps a very short riser?

Look at RS Regulates stock adapter for the Magpul Zhukov stock.

Yes, you will want a riser w/ that CNCW rail.

Thanks, I think the stock adapter and   Magpul Zhukov stock will be next months purchase . I had not seen these pieces before , and though the improvements I made to my stock help to raise and comfort my weld , the Magpul looks to be the way to go. After looking around at images online, I am leaning toward a C-More. it looks as though it will bet me over the sight hood.

RS Regulate's side rail mounts raise the red dot up to a similar height to what your red dot on a riser will be so should result in a better cheek weld.

RS Regulate and rear mount position are my preference.

You can also order one of the units that replace the top cover with a railed mount.  They are not cheap, but they are also lower to the bore than any of the side rail options I have seen.  I have seen them pop up for around 2-300 on Ebay or gunbroker, or you can get them through Zahal or one of the EU based vendors.  http://www.vz58rifle.com/products/duralovy-kryt-zaveru-sa-vz-58-dostupne-v-cervenci/#zvetsena-paka-vypousteni-zaveru-sa58-dsc-0952-800x600-jpg1

Also note there are a couple different versions.  This one replaces the dust cover I think, there is another style that just latches over the dust cover.  I have just never liked the AK style side rails for some reason.

It doesn’t effectively put the optic any lower than our mounts do.

Zendl is the only QD option for those top cover mounts other than I suppose the magnetic ones that I haven't seen in awhile.  Horse's mounts are ~1/3rd the cost of the Zendl, and with his DARS plate, I'd imagine the weight difference is negligible.

You do realize that with a red dot mounted on the dust cover you will not be able to use the iron sights? It is possible to absolute co-witness with the top handguard, I was able to with my red dot.
