P09 Upgrade options?
« on: May 18, 2019, 04:07:43 PM »
Just picked up another CZ today - the P-09 in OD. Just looking for what DIY upgrades others have done to their P09. What is best (lowest wgt) hammer spring that will reduce the DA pull without changing the striker spring (15 or 18 lbs)?
Are the P07 and P09 Hammer springs the same?
Will the CZ 75 hammer springs work?
Recoil Spring and Guide Rod?
Sights?

Thanks

On my P-09, I did all the requisite polishing and stoning of the internals.  Watch JoeL's videos, he goes by Joe Mustang on Youtube and is an active and valued member here.  I also polished the hammer strut and put a slight radius at the back of the slide on the bottom where it first contacts the hammer when cycling.

I also bought the extended firing pin kit with reduced power hammer spring.

I've also added the lighter sear spring and polished the sides of the firing pin block plunger.

The last thing I did, do at your own risk because you may affect timing, but I also stoned down my hammer hooks to reduce pre-travel.  I get just the slightest camming on the hammer (it travels backward when pulling the trigger in single action, before it releases).  I don't use this gun as a self defense weapon, which was my justification for this last modification.  I figured if I messed it up, I'd buy a new hammer from Cajun Gun Works.
My P-09 is my softest shooting, best trigger of all five of my CZs.  In my opinion, you don't need to spend a lot of money to make these guns really slick.

Keep us posted!

I agree with almost, everything said above. the videos you want to watch are JoeMustang 99 for disassembly reassembly.
 Do the suggested polishing.
when polishing do not remove or try to remove any machine marks , you just want to smooth and polish. My po9 is my EDC,15 # hammer spring , reduced power trigger spring, reduce power plunger spring, reduced firing pin spring.
Concerning the hammer and the hammer hooks, if you don't know what you're doing don't touch them !!!
There are a number of aftermarket hammers that will give you a 1911 crisp break , if that's what you're looking for. Here's also a suggestion if it actually applies to your pistol. Follow the instructions you'll do just fine.

I did exactly the same thing with my P-09.  The stock DA/SA were 8#5oz/3#10oz.  Now they are 6#10oz/2#3oz.  It is a sweet shooter  :)

Thanks,  my stock average DA is 10.14 lbs and the SA is 5.11lb.

I do agree with this.  I should have included a more extensive disclaimer on the hammer hooks, in fact, I almost didn't post that part at all.  IF you're not really experienced with mods like this, DON'T do the hammer hooks.  And please don't use a Dremel for anything other than polishing the feed ramp.  It's too easy to round corners that should be sharp.

I have a P09 UG/SR and the things I did are CGW yellow hammer spirng, extended firing pin & spring, RP TRS and all the suggested polishing. It came out great. Did the exact same to my P07 OD and it did not have the same great results. Each P07/P09 seems to react different.
