P10C takedown problem
« on: May 22, 2019, 10:35:13 PM »
I bought a used Gen 1 P10c that had an HBI trigger installed. I am having no failures to function in any way. But, when I attempt to field strip the gun for cleaning, after dropping the mag and pressing the trigger, the trigger rides forward after pressing the take down tabs and trying to move the slide forward off the frame. I am able to get the slide off with some manipulation, but it is a giant PITA for what should be a simple process. Any thoughts on what is going on? Sometimes during this process, I?ve noticed that the take down tabs seem really loose and not under spring tension.
Thanks in advance.

I wish to revise my answer...

On my 2017 Czech-made ambi, the take down bar will jam as you describe if you pull the slide back too far. The trick seems to be to...

• Drop the mag
• Check the chamber
• Pull the trigger
• Move the slide rearward, but only about 1/8". If the barrel starts to drop in the ejection port, then you've gone too far.
• Pull down on both sides of the slide release bar
• The slide should come right off

 ;)

My P10 Armorer's Manual says to move the slide back 5mm. 1/8" ~3.175mm. Regardless, it's not much. It's annoying CZ didn't put an alignment mark on the slide like on my P09. How hard would that have been.
You can always tell a Slovak, but you can't tell him much. Just ask my wife. ;)

Thanks for the info. Wobbly I followed your directions and that worked well. As long as the barrel didn?t drop all was good. An 1/8? is really all it needed for the slide retraction.

Usually, all I do is shoot my P10. And shoot. And shoot some more.

But I was doing some polishing on my mag release and had to take the slide off several times. That's when it hit me that there was most definitely a trick. Glad it helped.
