First shot today and my slide locked back only to see that my "star" style bushing had rotated a bit and now it was locked up. Other than sending back to CZ (and eventually changing over to the CGW bushing), is there any good way to fix this right now at home without marring the finish? Searched but couldn't find a way to do this and am hoping to not have to send it away for a while. But at least I didn't take any tools to it before asking here. Any advice is appreciated.

Here is an older thread on the issue.  https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=87269.0

That sucks, hope you can get it freed w/o damage.  I'm curious how this happens.  That bushing is not screwed in tight so it can move a little.  I thought the correct way to put the bushing on is to screw it in until is just snug and then back it off to the first notch that lines up with the plug.

Find an 8mm (or 5/16") x 2" socket and push it against the recoil spring plug.  It may give you enough clearance to turn the bushing.  I tried it on mine and it seemed to work.  Try it at your own risk though :D  Good luck!

Thanks, all. I checked that thread and it seemed that the OP sent it away but others suggested ideas. Can't find plastic needle nose pliers.

I have that socket and can push a bit against the plug but then how would you suggest turning the bushing?

I could try some type of plastic or wood tap and a hammer but not much purchase there.

The only other thing I can think of is taking the original CZ tool and trimming it way back on one side so it will fit in the dust cover. Hate ruining it though. And might end up marring things if it works and shoots forward.

As you can see, any ideas are welcome. Thanks

With the bushing, turn right to tighten and turn left to loosen.  I am not sure how the plug is wedged against the bushing, I imagine one should turn left or counter clock wise to the next notch.  Be sure that the slide is locked before you proceed.  Be safe!

You may want to try a smaller socket so that it will clear the plug.  The guide rod is about 5mm O.D., so 7mm x 2" socket is better.  I just checked with a 7mm.  It has the clearance for the bushing to turn.

I did this to my 97BD.  It's not hung up because the bushing isn't lined up with the recoil spring plug.  It's hung up because the bushing is deformed inward and is grabbing onto the barrel.  I would make sure the slide lock is released and gently tap the slide forward.  That will make it easier to remove the bushing.

I called CZ and they sent me a new bushing.  Since then I've made sure to line up the bushing properly to lock it in with the recoil plug.

Cheers,
Toby

Good to know!  Were there any damages to the threads inside the slide caused by the deformed bushing?

Tries pushing back using the socket but then trying to move bushing is proving to be difficult to say the least. I'll see what a smaller socket does.

Dave at CGW said I should be able to do it, just be aggressive - they use small teflon mallets - and don't mar the finish.  Was going to send to them for bushing job and if I send the whole gun, they'll do this as part of the job.

As for hitting the slide on the back, it makes sense that the barrel is bound up on the bushing, but how hard did you hit yours and was there any damage to barrel, bushing threads, etc. (like previous person asked)? If it's just a matter of a good whack with a rubber mallet, i would try it. Or did you do this some other way "gently tapping" it forward? What you're saying makes sense just wondering how you did it so I can replicate it.

This is the first time I ever didn't just go in tools ablazin' and attack. Don't want to ruin anything else! Seeing what I can do today and, if nothing, off it goes to someone who has better tools and more knowledge than me.  I've worked on my other CZs and Tanfos with no problems but this is a new one.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

SOLVED!

Thanks, tdogg, I used my rubber mallet to tap on the back of the slide and see if it would move forward. It did. So a few more taps and it was all the way forward.  Took the slide off and apart and was able to unscrew and screw back in the bushing. Trying to rotate the bushing in the stuck position did not work at all. Thanks again, everyone and if this happens to anyone else feel free to write and I'll tell you about my experience. Still sending it to CGW now but a lot cheaper and easier.

Glad it worked out.  I doubt it requires anything other than a new OEM bushing.

Are you sending it to CGW to get the E conversion bushing?  One of these day's I will send mine in.

Cheers,
Toby
