I decided to do some upgrade to my Scorpion carbine. I decided to change the factory stock with a Magpul Zhukov stock w/ adapter. Living in this NOT So "Great" State of California, requires me to have a fixed stock. So I decided to post what I did for those that are in the same situation.
-----Fixing the telescoping feature.----
1- Remove the rear butt pad by unscrewing the two hex screws.
2- Remove the spring. This spring is used to provide pressure on the telescoping release lever. At this point you can insert anything in the hole in the spring housing. However, found difficult to have a solid lock because is hard to determine the appropriate height of the block. So, I decide to use a set screw for finer adjustment.
3- The hole where the spring was housed is about 1 3/4" deep and about 9/32 in diameter. I could not find a set screw long enough so I decided to make my own. I used a stainless steel 10-32 x 2" long hex button screw. I grounded the screw head using my drill and a file. I also took out 2/3 of the threads since I don't need all the treads.
4- I filled the spring housing hole with epoxy putty. I was forcing the epoxy with a punch. You don't need to fill the hole all the way; just enough to tap some threads after the epoxy is set. I made sure that the screw head is below the housing, otherwise you will not be able to install back the rubber butt-pad.
I had to trim the screw about 1/4".
To adjust the stock length:
-back off the set screw
-adjust the stock length
-screw in back the set screw and install the butt-pad.
-If satisfied screw in the butt-pad screws.
----Fixing the stock folding feature.-----
I decided to use the same idea of fixing the the original stock. I have read that people have inserted toothpicks, nails or piano wires to fix the button. The problem is that you have to remove the Zhukov stock from the adapter, install the adapter in the rifle (AK ), then install back the stock with fixed latch which is a major pain in the rear.
https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=87835.01-Remove the latch by prying it with a small screw driver.
2- Inside the latch you will find two springs.
3- Use a 6-32 x 1 1/4" hex button head screw. You will see that it fit nicely between the spring.
4- Drill and tap the latch. It is easier to drill (using the appropriate drill bit for the tap) from the inside to the latch. Tap the hole from the outside. Install the latch back with the springs; make sure that latch is not binding. Thread the screw until stop.
5- Measure how much the screw needs to trim. Trim or file as needed. The final length of the screws after trimming is about 1 1/16" long.
6- Install the Zhukov stock; unfold the stock and tight the screw. Stop tightening the screw as soon as the head contact the latch. You don't want to strip the threads. Test the latch;it should not have any movement.
