Good shooting with a Pistol that you don't even own!   8)

Have to agree with you on the ergonomics of the Sig P227.
Used to own it's parent, the Sig P220, and I much prefer the ergonomics of my two .45 EAA Witnesses, the latter which
also have a 10 round capacity, but a much nicer grip shape.

since I bought a 97BD, the SIG P220 doesn't see much range time

Yeah, the 227 and I just didn’t get along very well. I’m sure there are shooters who really like it, but I don’t think I’ll be adding one to my collection any time soon.

Yeah I have no love loss for the 227. I found the recoil on mine to be snappy so much so that it became orphaned. Now my 220 Legion on the other hand has become my favorite .45 of all enough that my CZ 97BD got orphaned as well.

Many of these 45's were designed decades ago, when 10 rounds were the limit. And as much as I like my 1911's, my favorite 45 is my FNH-FNX 45 Tactical. IMHO it's a truly modern fighting gun that was designed for the US Military's handgun competition with 15+1 of 45ACP firepower, fully ambi controls, adjustable backstraps, a unique safety/decocker that allows cocked and locked or DA/SA 1st round DA, and optic ready ( I have a Venom on mine) with excellent iron night sights that co-witness perfectly. Surprisingly light at 33.3oz with empty mag. I'd especially enjoy seeing an LEO handgun test run with this one.  ;)

You know? I'd like to give that a try. After my less than favorable experience with the 509, I've been somewhat hesitant to pick up another FN pistol. Still, the one you described sounds interesting. Maybe I'll look around and see if I can come up with one.

Howard, I agree with your thoughts on the 509, there's so many better choices.
However if you like 45ACP as I do, IMHO the FNH-FNX-45 Tactical is what a modern 45 caliber should be. A 1911 on steroids. And what surprised me most is how they got 15 +1 rounds within a grip that's less than 1.3" wide and quite comfortable for my medium sized hands. Even though it has fairly aggressive stippling, I did add Talon grip tape as I do with all my polymer guns.  O0  The SIG P220, HK USP 45, CZ 97 (and clones) are fine guns, but with or without the optic, you just might like this one!
