Speed sights on a carry gun
« on: July 21, 2019, 01:35:02 PM »
Is anyone out there running speed sights on their carry gun I'm thinking about installing a set on my sub compact. I just tuned 72 and my sights are getting harder to pick up when the lighting is poor.

I had Diamond speed sights on my Springfield compact that I had.  wish I had taken the sights off the gun before I sold it. Very quick sights and Target acquisition..
For my po9 I chose to have primary machines Mill the slide and put on a Vortex Viper RDS. Was the best thing I did for my aging eyes.

What are “speed sights”?

I use either fiber optic front sight or a MRDS, for EDC as well as competition.

So far just fiber optics but at 71 gonna try RDS for some steel shoots.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

I presume these are the speed sights he was speaking of. I don't know what else you call speed sights.

DOC 1500 is correct the diamond shaped sights are the ones I've been thinking about giving a try.  I like the idea of using of the top point of the front sight diamond as my POA the X-ray sight on my new Sig 365 covers the whole center of a target at 10 yards.

WOW those have a lot going on for me.
If they help you shoot better I say get them.
I think all that bright diamond shaped different colors would confuse me.

I just a simple guy I guess. too much to think about hurts my head.

I’m not as old as you are, but about 5 years ago I started to need readers/cheaters to read things at arms length and closer.  I still see fine at distance.

The same applies to my front sight which appears blurry.  If I wear my cheaters, the front sight is in focus but then the target becomes blurry.  After experimenting with different glasses I found a pair that is about 1/2 the power of my cheaters, which was a good balance between being able to see my front sight clearly and not make everything beyond arms length blurry.  This has worked well for me to shoot iron sighted guns in competition, and having a narrow front sight (.100” wide) with a fiber optic helps me pick up the sight quickly and not obscure too much of the target as I’m not a fan of the 6 o’clock hold.

But seeing as I am unlikely to wear those special glasses all the time, for my EDC gun I switched to a RMR with 6 MOA dot.   That’s been working well for me since most of the time I shoot “target focused” and press the trigger when the dot is lined up.
