For CC , I carry P-09 W/ Red Dot sight in an Alien Gear in the waistband holster.
Whoever told you you can't carry a full size pistol is way wrong. thousands of people do it every day, skinny, fat , tall and short. I'm 5' 9 1/2 " 165lbs .
Full size  no prob .
And unless you live in an area where printing of your pistol isn't even allowed, Keep Calm and Carry On nobody even recognizes what's underneath your shirt. 50% of the time I open carry and here in Pennsylvania probably less than 1% of the people I encounter along the way might say something, usually " what kind of pistol is that".

And whatever you carry is your home defense pistol. By the way I love your choice of pistols.

I meant that I was told it's better to become adept with a full size gun before moving to a smaller CC weapon.   Plus, I live in SoFl and between the hot weather and the no printing rules of CC here, I dont think I could CC a full size.

I would like to shoot a Phantom, but the P09 was built from the ground up to be a polymer gun - the recoil system is different.  I've heard it handles recoil better, and believe it.

The Phantom is a 75B made in polymer.  Good gun, but really a different design.

Also, if you want to tune the trigger, the P09 is 100% easier to deal with.  The flat trigger is more comfortable unless you have skinny fingers.

By the way. I just purchased a Phantom on Gunbroker brand new for $350 plus $30 shipped. Brand new and the seller has more. You won’t find a better deal than this.

Thanks for pointing this out.

My pleasure. Just trying to help. I can’t wait to get mine.

Can you ELI5 why the Phantom has a curved trigger while the P-09 has a flat one?

The Phantom is basically a cz75 SP-01 but with a polymer frame.  As such it has the traditional style CZ trigger from the 70's with a lot of curve.  As mentioned, there are a LOT of options for improving this as most CZ75 internals are interchangable.  The P09 has a newer and more comfortable for many folks style of trigger.  It's not a flat trigger, it's just a straighter trigger that the CZ75.  I run a flat trigger in my competition and current carry gun and greatly prefer it, so I like the P09 for trigger feel.  Do consider the P07 as well for CC.  It's a bit smaller and easier to carry, but it's not so small that it is difficult to shoot.  Basically a g19/Sig 229 size.

I never warmed up to the Phantom.  I love my CZ 75 style guns, but I like them with the weight and balance of a metal frame.  The only real benefit to a polymer frame on a full size gun is to save weight, and if I want to carry light I just carry a smaller more modern design.  That said, if you are going to CC a full size CZ75 style gun, the Phantom is 14.5 ounces lighter than an SP01 and even a few ounces lighter than the P09.

Gotcha, ty.  Hmmm...you are the second poster to point out the Phantom was not specifically designed from the ground up as a polymer gun.  I liked that trigger as well.

Looking for a little advice to put things to rest in my head, ha.

This will be my first gun purchase.  I am relatively new to firearms, but I've tested a few brands and models and hit it off with CZs.  I've been advised to start with a full size pistol before moving to a CC weapon.  Makes sense to me.  I settled on polymer over metal.  This will be a range toy, home defense weapon.

I am too inexperienced to notice subtleties that gun enthusiasts can identify but I enjoyed shooting both the P-09 and the SP01 Phantom.  I can barely discern a difference between the two however.  Trigger pull and sights I'd say P-09.  Overall fit in hand, I'd say Phantom.  The P-09 has the hammer safety which cant be bad for a new shooter.  Mags are less expensive for Phantom.

The MSRP of Phantom is higher than P-09, but in the current market the selling prices are the same.  Actually, the Phantom is slightly cheaper.  I dont know if that's just supply and demand or if the P-09 is better.

So I am a bit stuck.  Is there a glaring difference between the two that would make one a better fit for a new shooter than the other?  Thanks in advance!
A consideration:

Why not call Cajun Gun Works and ask for a Pro Grade P-07. Tell them that you will carry the pistol (for self-defense).

They’ll ask for half of the cost and you’ll pay the other half upon completion. It takes about 6 weeks (in my experience) and you’ll have one lovely pistol.

Why P-07 vs P-09?

Ease of concealment if you ever need/choose to carry it.

The P-09 is difficult to conceal well. It’s got a very long grip.

Good points, but I've a budget and I think I'd have to have experience regular CZs before Cajunized versions.  My thinking now is that if I chose to CC in the future, I'd get something like a P-07.   ty

I've been using the P-09 for the last 3+ years as my home defense / bedside gun.  It has been outstanding in that role.  Excellent capacity 19+1 in a flush fit mag, outstanding accuracy, zero malfunctions, AND the ability to swap out the decocker for the thumb safety to suite your needs, all while still maintaining the double strike capability.

I liked it so much, I recently added one of the OD Green P-07's with factory nights that I will be carrying.  I just tested it out on the range this past week and again, zero malfunctions with a variety of range and self defense ammo totally about 400 rounds.

If you want to start carrying right away, the P-07 is also plenty capable of doubling as a bedside gun while also being your CCW.  The 19 round P-09 mags work perfectly in the P-07.  I'm carrying my P-07 complete with an Olight PL-Mini Valkyrie in a PJ Holsters IWB holster.  I highly recommend their light bearing IWB holsters.

Here are my P-09 and P-07:

The pics didnt come through but I'll take it as a given that your pieces look great, ha.   Starting to feel the pull of P-09 a bit.

I have both, and have fired several thousand rounds through both.   I voted P09 because it is the easiest gun to shoot well.  Grip, follow through, trigger finger issues? No problem, the P09 knows what you meant to do and takes care of it for you.  My only knock on the P09 is that it can get a little slippery and greatly benefits from adding a Talon grip.

Hmm, that's strange, I thought I followed the instructions on posting from Imgur.

Oh well, thanks for letting me know.  I'm not sure how to fix it.  Appreciate the mental pic on your end of my guns looking great!  :D

Hey, congrats!  Mine came with factory nights, but I'm going to be swapping those out here soon as the front sight has started to become really dim.  I have a set of Night Fisions ready to go on, just have to commit to doing it.  :)
