O-ring size for dry firing a P-01
« on: August 29, 2019, 08:06:37 PM »
Looked all over for exactly what size O-ring was best for dry firing my P01. There was plenty of information about some of the other CZs, but not the P01. So this time at home depot, I finally remembered to look at them. It's a pretty big selection, but common sense narrows it down to just a few.

I chose the #47 O-ring. 10 o-rings for $3 bucks and a perfect fit. If anyone is interested, I can provide the actual size of these. Just in case you're ordering off the internet, and not actually at HD.

Thanks for the info. I never think to look when at HD.

#47 O-ring brings it up on the home depot site.

Probably different sizes will work. I've been using #83, 1/2"OD x 5/16"ID x 3/32". Stays in place.  A pencil inserted down barrel doesn't move when hammer drops.

It protects the firing pin retaining pin from fracturing from the impact.

Well, I would hope you wouldn't dry fire with a round in the chamber!

But yes, only needed if you are not using snap caps.

Hey there folks - quick follow up on this.  After I read this post and the replies I had more questions than answers.  First, where is the O-ring being positioned during dry fire.  Second, is this an issue with older CZ firing pins as it seems that current metallurgy has figured out the appropriate hardness to make firing pins? is this an issue with the hammer striking the back of the firing pin?

I ask because people dry fire striker fired and revolvers all the time and I've never heard of anyone using o-rings as impact buffers.

Not trying to be snarky, just trying to figure out what's the situation.

thanks for the info.
