AWO producing new VZ58 receivers

Assault Weapons of Ohio (terrible name in current political climate) is apparently producing a new generation of VZ58 receivers.

After rigorous quality and functionality testing time, we've finally started production on our new VZ-58 milled receiver.

They were previously named Ohio Rapid Fire (ORF) and then became AWO.  I don't know who made OOW receivers.  ORF/AWO's founder died around 2010 or so and they had some out of spec receivers as well as issues with improper heat treatment of receivers across several of varying weapon systems' receivers that they made...  I want to say the original owner's daughter or something is now running AWO.

Agree with this; makes me wonder how gun-centric the owners are. Hope it’s a good product...

Hello, Son of the owner here to clear up any misconceptions. To start we were founded ten years ago when the owner of Ohio Rapid Fire (Todd Groves) sadly passed away and we bought out their inventory.  We continued to sell their previously manufactured receivers (m70, Vz58, FALs, gallils, etc. ) up until about 2017 when we ran out. we've also started manufacturing M76 receivers since 2015 do to the high demand of M76 builds that we have been producing since 2010. The new Vz58 receiver s are now manufactured by us. We've hired CNC programmers to remove the old tweaks that people had to make on the previous Vz58 receiver so its easy as possible for someone to build on. That being said if you purchase one from us and you manage to find a manufacturing flaw, we replace it free of charge and make adjustments here accordingly.

Has anyone ever considered machining a 1913 rail in place of the rear site tower?  Youd have to make relief cuts on the front to still be able to remove the top hand gaurd. Because your getting rid of the slide style rear site and hump it also makes sense to incorporate a rear site into the pic rail and then IMO zero the gun for 200 yds, set it and forget it.  Ive seen this done on a few different products where the rear most lug? Of the 1913 rail would have a cut same width as a normal rear site with a wider cut down the center of the preceding lugs. 

This idea makes sense to me sinc you'd get a solid low profile mounting point for a red dot, throw it in a QD mount and still have iron sites.  Theoretically this would also be less weight than most of the current mounting solutions.

I dont know how much weight it'd actually add to the gun, i assume if any since youre mostly just replacing the rear sight and ramp, would be maybe 4 oz?

The whole reason for the idea of a rear sight pic rail is to have a mounting solution that doesnt require removing an optic when field stripping, something that is difficult to accomplish with guns like the AK or VZ 58.

Ive actually tried the scout mount, short version, it wasnt a good fit and really didnt seem like a durable practical solution. A less thought out Attero mount basically.  Im pretty partial to the beaver stock and the folding stock but have given some thought to switching to that rear sight mount and throwing my vortex razor on a riser.

While I made something similar to accommodate a rear peep sight, and while it was an interesting and fun project, it took so much tweaking that I'm now looking to buy the Czechpoint adapter for another rifle to save on time and effort.  Unfortunately, it seems that Czechpoint is no longer making or selling them.
