You've got an old Pre B there.  With a new gun there are options for different style safeties.  Not sure if any of those fit/work with a Pre B.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I'm sure a different safety would help. I have the same problem with a stock 1911.

Of course the Half Cock is the normal position when carrying DA.  You let the hammer down by blocking with your off-hand thumb, releasing the hammer,  and rolling it away.  It gives safety and position advantage by starting from the half cock, which is much better than some other guns that don't.

As has been noted by experienced people who understand, the FPB is not really necessary.

I carry 1/2 cock. From the draw cocked & locked doesn't work for me without changing my grip.

Broke my  index finger a few years ago and as a result is has shortened a bit.
It is now tough for me to reach the trigger properly with the hammer down.

With 1/2 cock I've got just  enough  for full contact with trigger. With this I can still use the safety.
My CZ-75 (1984) allows the  safety to engage n 1/2 cock. Been that way since I acquired it Germany.

Only thing I have done is to take a bit off the hammer to relieve the hammer bite.

I don't know that/if the pre-B is drop-safe.  If not, maybe switch to a CZ-75B.
Anyway, I never use the safety or decocker on any of my CZ-75B's.
I also store mine in half-cock for trigger-finger issues (including a damaged tendon -- old injury).
