I still need an Aimpoint T2 for my AR before I “pull the trigger” on a red dot for my pistol. I’m doing it this year!! I just need a good sale!

I can't directly answer your question but I am waiting on CGW to complete milling my SP-01 for a non rear sight adapter plate and to install an SRO.  I should have it in hand in a couple weeks and will report back.  In the meantime, I've also just sent my P10C slide to Primary Machine to be milled for a Holosum 507C and for a camo cerakote job.  Again, I can report back.  More to your question tho, I also have a PCR I want to mill for a RDS and asked the CGW folks what RDS they'd recommend given the small/narrow PCR slide.  Dave's verbatim response: "The Shield RMS is pretty bitchin' for the compact CZ's.  Fits and works great on a compact CZ."  Just some food for thought if you're not wedded to the Holosun.

Cheers!

I actually have a P10C slide at Primary Machine right now. :) That's getting a Holosun and a Glock rear sight dovetail milled in front of the optic with a Cobalt Cerakote.

I also own the Shield optic as well. Mine came with an "Optics Ready" S&W Shield handgun.  I have pictures below to illustrate the size. It is a tiny optic and would fit nicely on the narrow CZ75 slide.  I just don't really like that optic. It's fine for a range toy, but not a good design.  I don't like the auto brightness and the fact that it has no controls to override that. I don't like the open battery compartment, and it doesn't have good durability compared to the Holosun.

I agree with Dave from CGW that the Shield RMS is small enough to fit nicely between the stock sights that will lower 1/3 co-witness. However, I also agree that it's a flimsy sight compared to the Trijicon, DPPro, Vortex or SIG Red Dots I own. A word of caution if you go this route....The Shield RMS has limited elevation adjustment and the CZ-75 slide must be milled with at least a 1 degree forward tilt (relative to top surface of slide) to get enough elevation adjustment to zero at SD range (10 yards).
CGW knows this and will mill it correctly. I learned this the hard way when someone else milled my slide with no forward tilt; and had to add a 1 deg Delrin shim.

So, my other P-01 I had milled by CZ Custom for a Vortex Venom. I like the Venom top-load battery, 6 moa dot, excellent Lifetime Warranty, and especially the two vertical lines on the rear that serve as my BUIS 'goal posts'. I think it's an excellent cost-effective Red-Dot for a 75-compact. And, with CZ Custom's changeable plates, I can switch to a different optic mount in the future.

Thanks for the info Vinny!

 Nice P01s!

I've been looking into the Venom since it's been on sale at Palmetto State Armory for a couple weeks, but so far resisted the urge. How do you like yours?  The Viper looks interesting too. I'm thinking that it sits a little lower than the Venom? Not sure what the difference is otherwise.

Thanks Dave,
I really like the Venom and IMHO it compares favorably to optics at 2X the price. I have several and they've been 100%. Can't beat their warranty and excellent value. I prefer the top-load battery on the Venom vs Viper, as well as the vertical markings on the Venom's rear that serve as my BUIS along with a taller FO front from Dawson. The adjustment screws on the Viper prevent a rear BU iron, unless you drill thru it to get to the screws. JMO

Here's what the Venom looks like from the driver's seat. This is on my P-07, but you get the idea.
The Venom with vertical lines plus tall green front FO from Dawson gives me a very cost-effective Red-Dot with BUIS.  Honestly, I'm so used to just focusing on the target and placing the Red Dot I don't even see the BUIS; but I know they're there 'just-in-case'.  Really, Red-Dots have become so reliable BUIS may only be a plus with an SD pistol. But, I like 'em.

Is that the factory front sight?

The image ^ of my P-07 SR IS the factory tall suppressor sight. With the Venom it's close enough for BUIS.
However, the non-suppressor P-07, P-01, PCR, SP-01 etc. factory front would be too short.
For my SP-01 and P-01....Initially, I left the factory front on; shot it with the Red-Dot turned off, measured the exact distance between my POA and POI at 10yds (SD range) and used Dawson's on-line sight height calculator to determine the actual FO front height I needed to order. Cost me $40 and DIY install.

Hope this info helps.  -Vinny

Thanks for the pics and the good info Vinny!

That sight height calculation is a real good trick.

I'd like to see more MRDS mfgs integrate a backup rear sight something like that.

How do you sight that, just put the front sight dot between and on top of the rear lines?

Yes, basically you use the 'goal posts' to center; and place the factory sight above creating a 'sight picture' you're comfortable with. Aim at a bull's eye point a certain distance away (I use 10 yds SD Range) and then measure the average distance away from the bull's eye that your bullets impacted. Enter this data into the Dawson calculator, and it does the rest.  ;)

Yup..you got it!  As BUIS go for SD, it's surprisingly accurate in a pinch.  O0

I thought you were kidding. Apparently this is an option.  ;D

This is just MHO......The Viper has it's place, especially on a very narrow slide sub-compact. But when you add up the cost of the rear iron, milling for it, and then drilling access holes.........I personally think the Venom with it's vertical markings is a more cost-effective solution for a compact or full-size CZ-75, and I prefer the larger 'window' on the Venom too.  There are also proponents of having your 'rear' BUIS in front of your optic.  If you can get the Venom on sale; with Primary milling and Cerakoting, and a Dawson front FO......you can end up with a very solid and reliable milled-in RDS set-up with BUIS for not much over $400. Just Say'in

However, on my Full-size SP-01 Tac I went with the DPpro and 'optional' adjustable rear iron.. It's big, and built like a tank. What the US Military tested and selected for their M-17 pistols. But I spent quite a bit more $$. Maybe too big for a compact EDC.

As electronics change and improve every year; I do like the option of CZ Custom's interchangeable mounting plates. (I think CGW has 'em too). As much as I like what I have now, who knows in a couple years what will be the best.   ::)

I'm just using that as another excuse to buy new guns.   :D
