Time for a new gun store. :(
« on: October 20, 2019, 03:19:25 PM »
Little rainy day rant.
Went to pick up my new p01... cz 75 Compact technically.

Gun store owner was being a bit more abrasive than normal. Swearing about this and that. Swore at me, asked if I was stupid when I put the wrote date on the transfer form, mumbled about how
Much it was a pain in the butt it was to get another  one.   Didn’t like my joke about earning his steep transfer fee. I apologized for the poor joke and asked if we could finish this. He said he didn’t like my attitude.... ?

When I said I wasnt putting up with his swearing he got even more irate, threatened to send it back to the mailing ffl, or keep it if he wanted.  We decided to part ways and stop all business. Pistol got sent back across the country.  Sent a check out to that FFL to get it sent back to different ffl holder and finally back to me,  well that check got lost in the mail for 2 weeks!  What luck.

I think everything is finally back on track.  Got a great deal here then added on a pissy gun store owner, 2 shipping charges and 3 transfer fees.   Hoping to hear some good news tomorrow.  Can’t wait for  some range time.

An expensive  inconvenience, but I’m happy to never go back there again.

Big thanks to the sender’s  FFL for helping me out.

I feel your frustration. I now go out of my way to avoid using a couple of shops, that are way more convenient, because of their poor attitude and exorbitant fees. I'll gladly drive the extra 20 miles to a shop where the owner appreciatively only charges me $20 for transfers. As he says, that's about all he'd make off of some new gun sales, with the same amount of paperwork involved.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

I've dealt with some attitude ridden gun shop owners and others in the past. There's never been a more than usual moment though. My money is as good as any and spends the same anyplace else so they only get to display that attitude once and I'm gone.

I don't know if this is a proper for this forum, but me personally would like to know this Gun Store name and location to avoid it in future.
We all here want to help each other, share out thoughts and I personally don't want to have such bad experience like CrusherDestroyer.

My last four firearm purchases all went from on-line stores to a non-stocking FFL holder.

She is a stay at home mom, military veteran and has no store front to deal with.
The transfer takes about 15 minutes, she makes $30, does it as a service to the shooting/hunting community and receives a yearly Christmas card from my household.

That's how I do it. YMMV

Those are nice,  I miss my old coworker back home that did a kitchen table FFL.

I've had several similar experiences, glad to know it's not just me. I was beginning to think merely my presence set them off... :o

I think a lot of LGS owners are really feeling the pain of reduced profit margins and it shows. My guy used to do multiple transfers for one fee as long as they came in on one order(ar lowers for example). He was pretty sure he had several guys pooling orders with friends to bypass the fee so he stopped doing them that way. He can be pretty salty depending on his mood, and his tolerance for stupidity has gotten more limited over the years. I can't imagine him sending a gun back or threatening to keep it outright though. It would be nice to know what city/state the OP is in at least.

When we encounter a person like that my wife will point out "that person has to deal with himself all the time, we can walk away".  Bad as your experience was, sounds like his is worse.

Crusher, post the city and state of this gun shop.  If it's in North Texas, I'll know which one you're talking about.  Just saying …    8)
CZ Compact PCR
Sig Sauer P320
Ruger LCP
Others, etc.

I cant say that I've ever had any experience quite that drastic in a gun store, but on the same hand I can say that I have definitely noticed a certain tendency towards something of a "my way or the highway" attitude. To put it another way, an attitude of "this is my store, and I'm entitled to be less than civil because I'm subject to the oversight of the ATF". I used to be an FFL and can certainly sympathize with some of the complaints a typical sun store owner might offer about the clientele, but at the same time I think some of this brusqueness crosses the line to simply being rude.

It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Sorry to hear that OP, glad that you got things back on track.

I had it out with a gun store a few years ago. I will not go into the details. I switched to a local private FFL. So i make an appointment for paperwork and then one for pick up (10 day wait in CA) and it has been smooth sailing ever since.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

. . . and gun store owners b&%#* about losing sales to the internet.  While it must be frustrating to pay overhead for a showroom and lose sales to companies that compete on price alone, running off your local customers is not the answer!

My first gun purchase was from an online source shipped to a home based ffl, it was a pleasant experience.  When I went into a lgs for the first time and in the process of conversation revealed where I had purchased my firearm, I got serious attitude.  It could have gone so many different ways, but the goal of the shop should have been to get me to wish I had bought from them instead.  As it was, I don't have any motivation to go in there again.

Any chance that store is in Oregon?  There's a LGS around here that's had a reputation for extreme rudeness for decades!  (Though I guess they don't treat
everyone like that: I had a good experience there.  But, I think I'm the only one.)  How stores like that stay in business is a mystery.
