LOK Grips Thin Standard or Matrix
« on: October 28, 2019, 02:56:23 AM »
I know, lots of threads on LOK grips. I used the search for two days before I asked and handled my PCR quite abit to try to answer my question as well, but I can't figure it out.

New to the PCR, have factory rubber palm swells on it and want some LOK's. I'm decided on Thin Standard crosscut or Thin Matrix. I would go with the standard but I'm worried about my grip. I'm right handed.

When I grip with the factory palm swells my thumb wants to sit on top of the grip. I grip high under the beavertail. If I get the standard, although there is less "shelf", there's still a little from what I can tell in the pictures on LOKs site. I'm worried my thumb will ride on top of the grip and be raw after some shooting at the range.

With the grips off the gun my thumb rides a little straighter, close to where the top is but not quite as high.

I'm sure the Thin Matrix would be fine either way as theres no "shelf" for my thumb to inadvertently sit on. But I'd prefer the Standards  if I had my choice.

Don't have money to try both. Anyone have both, or at least the standards and can consider what I'm saying and give a little advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Boxer 9

I personally prefer Thin Matrix as I carry my PCR every day.

I may end up getting a set of the Lok Thins.  I've been trying to find a set of thin wood grips but I'm not having much luck.

Boxer 9,
You have to find out first how does original rubber palm swell work for you.
I'm not a fan of palm swell, especially where my thumb barely hit magazine release.
I switched to LOK Standard and had a better grip and recoil management right away. LOK Standard feels a little better, you can feel that you get control over the gun.
I'm not sure how your thumb would sit, because your thumb shouldn't sit on grip at all  ???
With LOK Thin grip you will see a big difference comparing to original palm swell (they are really thinner).
With texture you have to decide how you gonna use the gun. I use OWB holster, so grip doesn't interact with my clothes and aggressive texture works for me.
So my LOK grips are STANDARD FULLY CHECKERED.
- very similar felling to original (with LOK my gun sits better in my hands)
- no problem with sweaty hands
- the same C clamp over pistol grip (like with original) but easier access to mag release button
- and of course gun looks hundred times better with LOK  ;D

Well when shooting the palm swells had me 'twisting' the gun because my grip. I'm not a new shooter, not even close, so I know it was the grips and how I held the gun with them.
My thumb wants to sit on top of the grip (left side) in a two handed grip, even in one handed grip for that  matter.

This is why the standards still worry me a little because there is still enough to get my thumb on top of. Then again there isn't the bulge of the palmswells at the top so my thumb might sit more naturally forward with standards. In fact my whole hand might sit more naturally.

Funny thing is my 1911 grip doesn't run my hand high, I also don't ride the safety on it. Of course thats a full size grip on a commander though.

I talked to Blake I think. He saud I had 60 days (or something) to return them, so I could try them and see. But I may just go with the thin matrix? I don't know. Ive had their site pulled up with thin matrix in my cart for 1.5 weeks lol. But I can't get the standard out of my mind either.

I think even with THIN grips there is still a material you can sit your thumb on. The difference between STANDARD and THIN wold be the amount of material on pistol grip. (how bulky grip is).
So I would say if your current rubber palm swell gives you a comfort gripping the pistol and you can easily manipulate all buttons and levers... stay with STANDARD, if you think yo need less material to reach magazine release - go with THIN.
Whoever if you like MATRIX texture.. you don't have any thickness option ...

I ordered the thin matrix, so we'll see I guess.
