Re-springing the P09
« on: October 29, 2019, 08:10:26 PM »
I've just completed the internal polishing in my new to me P09 and looking to getting this pistol ready for USPSA competition. Has anyone had success with the 11.5# hammer spring for competition or is this just entirely too light to set off Win primers and need to resort to Federal? Reviews indicate that the RP firing pin spring is needed with this hammer spring so that's understandable but how about the extended firing pin?

The reduced power trigger return spring is in the very near future also.

Lastly, what is the lightest recoil spring that will functionion this pistol for competition only use? CGW indicates 13# (gold).

I don’t have any experience with the P-09, but in a SP-01 Shadow or Shadow 2 it’s pretty common among USPSA shooters to install an 11.5 lb main spring to lower the DA pull weight but many of us  also replace the stock firing pin and FP spring with an extended FP and reduced weight FP spring.  This combo ignites CCI primers reliably, and no need to go to Federal primers unless you opt for the 8.5 lb main spring.

A TRS and floating trigger pin also makes sense to replace as the TRS have a tendency to break over time.

All of these parts are available from CGW.

Again, this is for a SP-01 or Shadow 2, but I run a 10 lb recoil spring with minor PF ammo.

Oops, sorry, should have come up with a different title(?)...
Did the second one get deleted?

I echo that running reduced FP spring + Ext FP + 11lb main is what you want for CCI primers.
I never mucked around with Federal primers.

That combo but with 13 will set off most factory ammo.
Combo+15 will set off all but the absolute hardest of primers (Some Norinco stuff I had laying around).

Something I've noticed with messing around with my P09 more and more is that my single action gets a little more sloppy and inconsistent with lighter springs unlike my SP01.
I personally stick with a 15 for the most consistent trigger press for longer stuff. (I also run comp hammer and +power sear spring FWIW)

+1 on replacing the TRS. If nothing else, pick one up and have it waiting to go.
I'm around 10k through my P09 and I've already broken 2 CZ factory TRS.
Dry fire is probably in the 30K+ area.

Still waiting for the CJW shipment for the springs since some range time revealed light strikes with just the 12# main spring. I ran these light strikes through my 92G and they went off first time even though repeated pulls wouldn't set them off in the P09. Looking forward to installing the FPRS and the RPTRS to see what I get. I'll be eager to see what the RPTRS diameter is compared to factory since a mock up I made gave a REALLY light SA trigger pull...probably even too light for fast work in a match.

I'll measure up my RPTRS once I get home for you.
