P-10 grip angle
« on: November 01, 2019, 01:15:12 AM »
I've been thinking I might pick up a P10C but after watching some video it looks like it has the same grip angle as the glocks.  I have owned a few glocks but got rid of them simply because I could not stand the grip angle.  I guess my 40+ years of 1911's has had a lot of influence on me.  My guns of choice are 1911's, Sig's and cz's.  All with similar grip angles.  So does it have the same grip angle as the glock?

Nope. I don't think CZ uses the same grip angle as Glock. Glock has it own unique grip angle that nobody else is using.
P-10 may looks similar to Glock 17, but definitely it is a different set  up and better shooter that Glock.

The P10 grip angle is closer to a 1911 or traditional CZ with the small or medium backstrap insert.  However, the backstraps don't extend up to the grip tang, so the backstrap angle becomes more Glock-like with the large insert.  I wear size L gloves and wish the P10 grip tang was molded a little shallower.  It doesn't quite fill the hands like a Sig, Beretta, or M&P.

I have small hands so I would probably be using the small, or maybe medium, insert.  Like I said, I watched some videos on utube comparing the p-10 with the g19 and it looked like the angle was about the same but it was hard to tell.  That's why I posted the question.

You cannot definitively tell grip angle in pics or vids. CZ is not even remotely close to glock in grip angle/feel.The only way to know for sure is to put one in YOUR hand and see how it feels.

I wish I could but I live in a real small town in deep east texas and the closest gun store to me is about a 2 hour drive round trip and they don't carry cz's.  So I'm sort of SOL.

I did something that should not be done and ordered a gun (P10-C) without firing one or handling it first.  I made the decision based on other people's opinions.  As it turned out, it fits my hand perfectly and I love it, but I wouldn't recommend you do the same.

The P10C is one of my most amazing feeling pistols.
To me it feels nothing like the Glock 19 I traded for it.
Every CZ I have feels amazing to me.

Definitely CZ has "standard" angle.

I run the small grip in my CZ’s. Nothing like a Glock grip.  The grip angle is closer to what US shooters are use to. The small grip insert is nothing like the hump of the back of the Glock grip. Also the P10C grip is tapered towards the top unlike the flat sided Glock grip. David

The only “modern” duty/self-defense pistol in production with an almost identical grip angle as Glock is the current Steyr L/M/C/S series (Steyr 111°, Glock 112°). But then again that’s because the same designer had a hand in both of their development, Wilhelm Bubits.

My old C9-A1 and Glock 19 from years ago at time of purchase, then one of my other Glock 19’s and P-10C, followed by a random pic from the web showing angles:

One thing to keep in mind is that grip angle has less to do with the angle of the magazine well or the frontstrap angle, as much as it does the backstrap.  The frontstrap doesn't have much to do with how much your wrist bends since your fingers can grip independently.  As an experiment, if you stick something between one of your fingers and the frontstrap, the grip angle won't change much because the three individual fingers can conform to the shape.  Stick that same thing between your palm and the base of the backstrap, and you'll notice a much bigger difference.  Since your palm is a single unit, if you keep the wrist angle the same, the front fingers can adjust to the new angle while the palm cannot, so the gun points differently.

Another tell-tale is the angle from where the trigger guard meets the frame, and the high point of the grip tang.  This bears out when you look at how Glocks point high for many people.  The hump at the bottom of the backstrap, high tang, and relatively low trigger guard all bring the rear of the gun lower in the hand than the front.  It's why you see so many Glocks with highcut trigger guards and hump/grip reductions to get them to point lower.

Yeah I've done that before a few times.  Most of the time it's worked out ok, If not I just list it on GB and get my money back.  I just wished I lived closer to a gun store so I could get my hands on one before buying.

OK all of you convinced me.  I going with the P-10C optic ready.  I already have a Holosun HS507C.  Just need to order a mounting plate from CZ, which they're out of stock on right now.  Also need to see if I can find a set of night sights that will give me a 1/3 co-witness.  If such a thing even exists...….
