do it. you WON'T lose. FYI you can send a STRIPPED of everything, Glock slide into Glock for new sights and they WILL fill it with all new FREE parts (new striker, extractor, end plate, bearing, everything) for just the cost of the sights. ($22 for steel dots or $59 for night sights). They pay return shipping for that price too. They ONLY do this for OEM slides. download and fill out their warranty work page .pdf. The instructions are on the form. DO NOT ASK FOR THE FREE PARTS!!!! They do it out of the kindness of their hearts. I've also been gifted FREE recoil spring assemblies when sending them a slide before. I've done, I think, 6 of them now.
WOW!!! Now I have to ask, where's a good place for inexpensive oem slide assmblies? Or is it better to buy them in parts? I'm asking because may decide to build 1-2 with oem parts. The rest would be custom aftermarket.
Been researching what calibers I can put in these. So far I've discovered of course 9mm and .40. Would be nice if I could build a 10mm or .45. Are all their poly frames equal? Or are some weaker or simply designed to limit caliber. I know about 1911s. A lot has happened since I've been out of guns. Should have stayed informed. I would've known many guns increased 2-3x in price and custom parts and work bring a premium.
Even broken guns sell well. There was an FIE TZ in 9mm I believe. You could see the wear. Most the bluing was gone. Not sure what final price was, last I saw was $140. I almost bought it to fix and sell but I couldn't find one in restored condition. Something like that would've cost $50-$75 in late 80s early 90s. The seller said sometimes the trigger didn't work. Sounded like a flat spot, broken part/spring in trigger mech. or hammer.
Bought some new stones. Working on getting some riffler files. Mines used up. My stones are broken into a billion pieces. Someone stuck a motorcycle trans on top of the box they were in. Just my luck the stones were on top. My bleep gunsmith screwdrivers are gone. But I have my punches, drifts, drill bits, tap and die, and my hammers. Got a bunch of other stuff just needs cleaning.
Made a couple bench blocks out of wood and that cutting board plastic. The wood ones crumbled. The plastic one separated and the magnets are gone. Debating building or buying. Found one for $6 on Mcarbo.
Another side effect of insomnia is rambling or not knowing when to end a post.
