Probably letting go of my P07(s) and P09
« on: November 09, 2019, 02:36:02 AM »
After my latest outdoor range session, I have decided to stop running the P07/P09 series, the abbreviated slide height and janky field strip take down, along with abysmal lack of aftermarket support has finally done this platform in for me.  I thought I could overlook these "quirks" at first, but they are down right flaws for a modern design pistol.

I'm running the CZ P10, Glock, and HK P-series platforms for defensive use.

I'll probably end up eventually selling the P07/P09 pistols. I have a Beretta Elite LTT that I shoot for enjoyment, but the P07/P09 aren't that kind of pistol.

Hey, at least one CZ platform is still in my rotation!

After, over a year, of really trying to like the platform, the P07/P09 just couldn't cut it and join the FN 509, HK VP-series, Sig P-series and M&P M2.0 platforms, doomed for extinction from my arsenal.

Too bad... but choice is good.  I'm not going to try to talk you out of your decision, because I've done the same in the past.  But I will say that the P-07/9 platform is a good choice for a DA/SA, and it does take some serious time and training to become proficient with it--  8)

The absolute beauty of diversity of choice is not every gun fits every person for one reason or another, but options exist to make everyone happy.

The P07/P09 are excellent shooters, no doubt! The frame being so tall makes for the highest thumbs forward grip of any pistol I've shot. For maneuverability in the hand and control, the P07 in the compact class is probably tops in the category, with the ability to get a super high secure two handed grip, you can just point and drive that pistol to the target, and it will just stay on target forever, until you bring it back.

I really like my P-07 and carry it as my daily.
I still do not shoot it as well as the same-sized P-01.

We all have our “preferences”, and most guns have their “quirks”.  Keep trading and trying different models until you have what “fits” you.  I am very happy to have the choices we do!

The best pistol is the one that works the best for you . With so many choices people tend to chase after a "better" pistol , when they would probably be better off working on their skills , on what ever level they are on . The only platforms I have not bought and used are the 1911 and revolver . I am happy with all the choices we have .

I like reliability and small groups.  The P07 and P09 beat out the other brands of pistols I own.

The M&P sure feels good in my hands but between reliability issues and poor groups with the 1.0's and not shooting as good a groups as the P07/P09 (even after spending almost $400 on aftermarket trigger and barrel) with the new 2.0 I just don't let the feel of the grip sway me.

The Beretta feels pretty good in my hand but again, it won't shoot with the P07/P09.

The XD/XDM guns won't shoot with the P07/P09.

The Browning won't shoot with them.

The FNS pistols, so far, won't shoot with them either.

When I wanted some aftermarket parts (reduced power springs for the trigger/firing pin block) I ordered from CGW.  They didn't need anything else to make them more reliable or more accurate.

That's the way it is.  Some people swear by those pistols that fit your hand like a 2X2 and shoot patterns instead of groups.  I have one of those, too, in the safe.  Takes all kinds.  And what I used to say was something like, the less people buying CZs is more for the rest of us.

Good luck with the new brand/model/caliber.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Well, you have a lot of other fine weapons so that's good!

I'm tempted to try a Cajun P-09 but would probably let my Sp01 go if I do that.  Then there's the whole need to go looking for holsters as well...which I agree can be a pain.

I'm with you on the P10c though...loving that gun and got a lot of good gear for it.  Plus, I ordered a Safariland holster (with light) for my 19x recently and lo and behold it works pretty well for my P10c!  ALS for that gun??  Well alright!  O0

I have (2) P10 F(s), they fit my Glock 34 Safariland ALS w/uboat (x300u) Holster

I've contacted numerous companies who produce gear I like and use, and not one said they had plans to support the P07/09 platform.  It became too much of a pain (and money) to find the gear I like to run for it.

While I welcome your thoughts and opinion about choices I just have to think that man you are passing up some of the top tier guns out there in shoot ability and popularity, but with that said if they don't feel right, shoot right for ya then its time to find something that does work for ya. I agree the 07s slide is a bit small & when I'm doing tap/rack drills with dummy rds mixed in it can be a bear sometimes but then it's a training thing, use it shoot it more and it's a non-factor (for me anyway) I don't believe I have ever considered the take-down janky, :o I like that,LOL  I don't know your age or shooting experience "but" just reading your 1st post my thoughts are for "defensive" use your trying using too many different pistols, settle on ONE and shoot it exclusively and then decide, when your switching around its hard to get good/consistent with that gun/platform, especially for defensive/EDC use ! I know you didn't ask for it but that's my 2 cents worth, LOL  ;D  Not trying to convince you to keep running the 07, sounds like you made up your mind and that's fine, the choices you mention above are all good (P-10/Glock/HK) but with that said switching from the HK which is SA/DA pistol and then going back to the Glock or P-10 (striker-fired) will mess with you also, just another thought, LOL Its all about repetition/muscle memory, etc, training shooting with 3 different guns with two different platforms can be a tough road, although for some its a non issue so I just figured I would throw that out there also. Well with that said I hope you find and settle on a quality pistol for your defensive/EDC use & can find the gear you desire for it so you have the complete package. Keep us posted on how you make out & what you settle on.  :)

GREAT advice -- that's why LE Agencies choose one platform for every LEO.  Some agencies may offer a selected choice, but you are limited to that choice.  And with that you will become proficient...  8)

Question for Mountaineering OP:
Just curious which HK P-series you're staying with, and what trigger mode: DA/SA or LEM?

Hi Vinny,

The P30 and P2000, V3 for both (DA/SA), I carry the P30 in the winter, and the P2000 in early Fall and late Spring, or when I feel like carrying appendix.

Hey All,

Thought I'd share since people are curious.

My first pistol was a Sig P228 back in 95, I added a P229 (.357 sig) in 97, bought a gen 3 glock 19 in 98 or 99.  One day in the fall of 2001, I got tired of lugging that heavy P229 around, hated the look of the slide compared to the P228, but I did like shooting the .357 round.  The round was not a big enough factor for me to keep the gun tho, sold it and bought another glock 19.

In 2006, bought what was then called the Sig P226 Navy (now the Sig MK25), cause operator, and handled the HK P30 while at the gun shop, looked at the price and said "nope"

Was happy with my two glock 19(s) and my Sigs. Glocks got carried, the Navy was my night stand gun, cause operator.  These were my handguns until 2011, when I won a Sig P220.

Then the pistol scene exploded in 2015-Present, bought and sold the walther ppq, pps m2, m&p m2.0 compact, fn 509, hk vp9, sold all the sigs, went all in on HK(s) when the price dropped on the P-series, cause started to carry appendix and liked a hammer gun for that.

In 2017, bought a P07, bought another in 2018 - along with a P09.  Purchased a P10 F this spring, liked it so much, bought another, but the USA made Optics Ready version, cause dot life.  Picked up a Beretta Elite LTT this summer and luv shooting it, but won't carry it.  The P10 F(s) are my nightstand guns.

Have run Glocks since the late 90's, the P10 series is very similar (that was CZ's plan); been running DA/SA since the mid 90's

I can say, you don't know if something is better, until you try it.  Testing and evaluating new models has nothing to do with being a newb or proficiency.
