Cz 26
« on: November 09, 2019, 04:28:02 PM »
Hey everyone I have recently purchased this  beautiful cz 26 . From what I have learned this was a military pistol has the j 26 stamped lion symbol. Appears gun is in original condition almost like it came thru a time machine. Would really like to get all info and feedback on this pistol.      https://imgur.com/gallery/r2dnibA

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the J 26 is the military acceptance mark (year accepted). Most likely the pistol is a CZ vz24 in 9mm Browning Short (9x17mm aka .380 Auto).

Congratulations on the acquisition!

Photos of all markings would go a long way to help you learn more about your "precious".

I've found the best way is to load Tapatalk to your phone, so that you can upload pictures directly from it.  If your phone take enormous size photos, be sure to resize them for upload...best results seem to be setting the width to 800 pixels.

Alternatively here are some other ways: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=93202.0

Thank you for pic info. I was told to use imgur and have uploaded pics. Look for viking76 subject cz 26. There is a code on fromt strap 31 P 1201. There is not much info on cz 26 pistol on internet. It is almost like this gun does not exsist on record. Very strange i think. I am now a serious cz collector after doing research and seeing quality in the making of these vintage handguns. Thank you again and apologize for not being able to get pics up sooner.

Thanks for posting the link to your pictures.

I am currently in Japan (on business) so I don't have access to my books with which to interpret the markings until I return to the US tomorrow.

it looks to be a vz24 in excellent condition.

gripstrap marking "31P 1201" is 31st Regiment, Infantry, pistol #1201

"cz 26" is the manufacture year
"J (LION) 26" is the military acceptance mark (accepted in 1926)

Thank you for info. This is my first of hopefully many more vintage cz guns. I think I'm off to a good start with this beauty.

A really good reference book is "Know Your Czechoslovakian Pistols" by R.J. Berger.

There are a number of ridiculously priced copies on the web, but if you are patient it can be found on eBay for $15-30.

Okay...back from Japan.

I concur it is a model 24 of which 100,000 or more were made.  Some were manufactured for other countries and have different serial number sequences.

The J (lion) 26  is the MILITARY ACCEPTANCE MARK.

The C (up arrow) Z 26 is MANUFACTURED YEAR.

The C (up arrow) Z shows this pistol was designated for use in Czechoslovakia.

The 31 P 1201 means that it was assigned to the 31st REGIMENT of the Czech INFANTRY and was the 1201st one assigned.

It might be possible, if the old military records are online and you can read early 20th century Czech handwriting, you might be able to determine who the pistol was assigned to.

The old church birth records from the 19th century (before it became Czechoslovakia after WWII) that have been scanned and made available online allowed me to find both of my maternal grandparents records:  their date of birth and location, both parents names, occupations, house number, name of midwife who delivered, priest who baptized, godparents and their occupations.

Congratulations on the start of your collection.  I have a couple of gaps still in mine that I'd like to fill.

There is an old-timer on the Forum:  czechollector who has a more extensive collection.
I wonder who he is leaving his collection to in his will?

Thank you for your research and input. I have officially been drawn in to cz relic collecting. I have been a k98 mauser collector and now it's time to move on. I feel that I'm off to good start with this excellent cz vz. 24.
