If they sometimes need more skill than what I did to replace trigger groups in AKs, I do Not like prices charged by the local gun smith.
He charges $160 to repair an AMD-65 muzzle's tiny spot weld when they crack.
Note: this is just the context.

For example, do Czechpoints (now on Gunbroker) all have the patented push down plate?

Out of the box, the CSA offerings are great!  I have added a few items out of preference.  The ambi controls allow me to operate the bolt and magazine release with my trigger finger.

Thanks for the info and links. I'm 64 years old and only got infected by the real 'gun bug' at age 52.

The main question is-- enjoying all of my imported AKs the last three years--trying to see that it's worth it to buy a $1140 rifle-before ship+FFL costs.
Owned a number of Enfields, SKS, Mausers, which usually cost approx. $400-500.

*Do regular plinkers basically just enjoy the unique characteristics of a $1300 gun which shoots 7.62x39?

If CSA is manufacturing new components for receivers etc-due to the world surplus market drying up (and being Destroyed by both UN and taxpayer-funded Brit/Euro "Arms Control" groups) sanctions, then the new Czechpoint components apparently are Well-built, on the original Czech equipment installed in the US.

I tend to think of it like the difference between a WASR and a quality milled arsenal AK.  Both function the same and use the same ammunition, but the quality of the firearm is different. Is it worth the extra cost?  That is something you have to decide for yourself.

The CSA rifles are made in the Czech Republic by Czech Small Arms (CSA) and imported as rifles into the US by Czechpoint-USA.

As I understand it, the CSA rifles are made with German barrels partly because the original Czech barrels are too short (under 16 inches) to import as rifles (unless welded with a barrel extension).

Hope this helps.

Thanks again for so much detailed info. Appreciate you guys' time and assistance.
This might be redundant for either a 'pm' to you, or another thread:

* I clicked "Buy Now" on a  8) Czechpoint 58, "new"-in-box, this morning. Whether or not a possible trade (he's gonna try my AK today) for the plinking buddy's well-functioning VZ 2008 takes place, is secondary.  :)

If so, it follows a habit of having at least two of almost every gun, or slight variations.

Thanks. I sold a beautiful, near-pristine (almost a museum piece) 1994 Sig P228 and a second gun for the ready cash.

It will take a while, mailing the USPS money order tomorrow; waiting, and waiting.
My superb CZ 'PCR' has been lonely for a rifle mate.

What bolt release do you have on the top image? It seems like just the right size.

Pacman:  it's the Zendl Bolt Release.  I found it for sale on ebay cheaper, but here is a link to the item: http://www.euro-military.com/SA-VZ-58-Tactical-Military-Bolt-Release-ZENDL-d49.htm

It has been a fantastic addition to my VZ58s!
