P-09/P-07 Extended Safety
« on: November 22, 2019, 08:09:18 PM »
I got tired of waiting for an aftermarket safety lever that I wouldn’t miss with my thumb, so I decided to fashion my own.  Took the factory safety and deep stippled it with a hot wire creating tiny, mushroomed top craters on the surface being careful to not go too deep and ruin the functioning of the detent assembly on the back side. Some said they didn’t think JB Weld would hold, but that’s what I used, being sure to completely degrease with gun scrubber prior to application.  Blobbed a bunch on to make it oversized and waited 24 hours to fully cure before using a small sanding drum on a dermal to hand shape it.  A little hand sanding with some 600 grit paper before painting it with Krylon flat black.  Been solid as a rock through 2 months of practice and 6 defensive pistol matches.  Approximately 800 rounds.  I use Ballistol as both a cleaner and lube. Some very thin cleaners may affect it negatively, I don’t know.  This is a real lifesaver for me and just wanted to pass it on.
If someone will help me by telling me how to post a picture off my iPad, I’ll include one.

Thanks jurek!  I’ll have to play around with that and see if I can get it to work. I have all the confidence in the world when it comes to working on anything mechanical, especially firearms, but I’m way beyond challenged when it comes to anything involving technology. Hahaha!

I've tried several photo hosting services and IMGUR does seem to be the best yet. It's free. It's nearly unlimited storage. And your posted photos will never "time out".

My only advice is to go ahead and start using "albums" right off. For instance, put all your P07 photos in a different "album" (aka 'directory', 'folder') from your P10c photos. Like any computer storage system, at some point you get so many files that house keeping becomes mandatory just to find things.

Remember: If you move the file later on, then the hosting address will change and you need to re-post the photo address.

PS. When you first logon to IMGUR you'll be looking at other peoples shared photos. A good many are VERY funny.

I drilled and tapped the high "rib" on the safety for 2-56 thread.  This allowed use of various screw/washer/spacer combos until I found something that worked and was comfortable.  Ended up with a cap screw reverse threaded into a nyloc nut, then threaded into the safety.  Works good, provides a bit more area to grab and the rounded end of the nut will not chew on my hand.  The polymer is good and holds threads well.  Just be sure threads are not past flush with the inside of the lever.

This is the 1 part the is holding me back from getting a P-09/07.
I still can’t believe that:
1) CZ actually thought a safety THAT small would be consistently and reliably operated under pressure.
2) No aftermarket companies have made a larger safety.

As it stands, I’m still leaning towards the Tanfoglio Witness P series (lower price, better safeties), but would much prefer the P-09/07.

The safety IS that big of a deal to me.

I must have strange hands because the safety work just fine for me.
Too bad there is not more after market support for these pistols.

You can also trim the tiny detent plunger spring to fine tune the safety lever effort required.  If you have bigger hands this may be enough.
