I got mine last night (Wednesday) and installed it. Gotta take some pics and post them when I’m off work. Looks wise I like it and finally I’ve got  some much needed real-estate to set up my Bren how I’ve wanted from the beginning. I do feel like HBI missed an opportunity that could have made this rail perfect. What I mean is that they did a good job adding a gas key extension but I really wish they designed the extension to come apart and drilled a hole on top of the hand guard where the plunger is so I could use a bullet or what ever to take apart the gas system still. Currently you have to remove The handguard to disassemble gas piston. Which makes me worry will my rifle require to be re zerod every time I clean my gas system? Honestly my mind is already thinking about wiping out a drill and making the mods I mentioned my self  ::)

Wait, you have to take the handguard off to take the gas piston apart??? So not only do I have to remove my bayonet lug to put the handguard on, I also have to remove the handguard off just to disassemble the piston. What the hell HBI???

It takes pains to accessorize, doncha know!  :o

And actually (not convinced that 4 screws out of the original 15 is adequate to hold the barrel & hand guard together on the receiver), you'll want to change out those four remaining screws and Nord Lock washers since they get knackered up in the process of disassembly / re-assembly, so off to Fastenal for those parts as you won't likely find them at your local hardware store -- because, of course, CZ USA doesn't stock any parts for these guns as of yet (i.e.: 16" barrels), and they have no idea when they will. As usual, covid is the easy, ready-made and hackneyed excuse for everybody to drop the ball these days...

Do you guys know if this piece would fit the Bren 2?

https://www.preppergunshop.com/gear-head-works-scorpion-tailhook-mod-1-brace-adapter-with-cz-folding-cheek-rest-and-tailhook

I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure it won’t. It says in the more information tab that it’s for a Scorpion. I’m pretty sure Scorpion and Bren won’t interchange. You might do some digging and see if Haga or HBIndustries makes an adapter.

What Stater said, I don’t think it’s compatible.

Did not see this until now, the Dan Haga Bren 2 lower receiver...takes US fcg and pg, so that would be five 922r compliant parts for a rifle conversion. Looks pretty slick!

Great catch and thanks for the link I had no clue he went live with these yet. I’ve looked this up in the past but I’ve forgotten already. How many parts need to be US to be 922r compliant again? I want to say 6 but that’s probably wrong.

You can have a total of 10 foreign parts, of those designated by ATF under 922r.

Thank you, man sometimes when I think about how asinine and pointless these laws are I fear I may roll my eyes too far back one day and get them stuck there.  ::)

Is a fully assembled dan haga lower Enough to be 922r compliant?

Does anyone have a photo of a 14" with the HBI 10.8" hand guard, and the CZ stock on it?

Im trying to figure out which hand guard to get for my 14" 7.62.

Thanks

Go to Danhagas Instagram page he had a few pictures with both HBI rails on different rifles. I wasn’t able to find a picture with the rail and a CZ stock so hopefully someone can jump in and send one but you should be able to get a good idea after Looking at Dans pictures.

And actually (not convinced that 4 screws out of the original 15 is adequate to hold the barrel & hand guard together on the receiver)...

I know what you're thinking and I had the same concerns at first, but when you tear apart the OEM handguard assembly, the only screws attaching the barrel to the receiver are the 4 that get replaced. (Marked with green arrows)

The screws marked with red arrows just hold together the pieces of the assembly. (I missed two on the lower rail, but those only help hold the lower rail onto the handguard assembly) This accounts for 9 of the 15. So realistically, its like going from 6 to 4. Except it's a bit more complicated - 2 of the 6 don't really contribute much.

The two on the bottom of the trunnion (orange arrows) only help attach the bottom rail to the handguard. Sensibly, if the barrel is secured to the handguard via that rail, and the handguard is secured to the receiver, then the barrel is secured to the receiver, right?

As it turns out, not really, since removing the 4 green marked screws means the entire assembly, handguard and barrel, is attached via only 2 of the red screws (the front 1 on each mounting plate that has 1 red and 2 green). Those two screws mate with holes in the receiver that are rather loose, and provide little retention. In fact, its the mounting plate which secures the lateral motion of those screws. And the mounting plates are secured by the 4 green screws.

Hence, if you delete all the screws but the green ones, nearly all of the force which secures the trunnion within the receiver is retained. You do lose the support of the bottom attachment via the handguard, but being that any support it provides is primarily dependent on the 4 primary screws anyway, it does little to add anything but weight to the design.

Which comes full circle to why this thing has 15 screws in the handguard anyway (16 if you count the one holding the sling swivels!). Its a vestige of a crappy redesign towards modularity on the part of CZ. The military Bren 2 models have the same 4+2 screws attaching the trunnion to the receiver and the 2 in that design provide even less support, since their attachment is leveraged at end of the lower rail, giving even less support to securing the barrel. The bottom screws are only there to provide an attachment point for the bottom rail, else CZ would have extended the receiver down to be bolted into directly.

Good call on the nordlocks by the way, those things get chowder'd so fast, HBI should really ship new ones. HBI does give you 4 new, much nicer screws though.

EDIT: Forgot an "s" and a comma. Also, split paragraph for emphasis.

Thanks for the write-up. I never understood why people were so concerned. I have the carbine, and it only comes with the HBI setup from the factory.

Because the stock Ms handguard has so many stupid parts that it just transcends reason and inflicts it's idiocy onto anyone looking at. /s

What's the length of the carbine handguard anyway? I wonder if when they get around to pushing out barrel kits if a 16" barrel would work well with the HBI 10.8.
