What pound recoil spring.
« on: December 07, 2019, 02:52:47 PM »
I picked up a Accu Shadow 2 and a TSO.  Im shooting 115 and 124 gr box ammo.  Would like some opinions on what pound recoil spring to use in each gun? To me seems the 16# in the TSO would be a bit heavy and the 11# in the Accu shadow a bit light.  I was thinking a 12# in the accu shadow and 13# in the TSO for box ammo.  Any help appreciated.

Shoot them first and see how you react to the recoil with the stock springs and go from there.

Maybe just pick up a variety pack of springs from CGW or Wolff GunSprings,  CZC (not sure if they offer one) and see what weight spring works best for you.....there really isn’t a wrong choice in weight as long as the gun functions properly  :)

These will both be used just as range guns.  I don't compete and don't want to get involved with power factors and ejection distances.  Really looking for a happy medium with the gun functioning properly and not under or over springing the guns.

It would also depend on how hot the factory ammo is loaded.

I have tried 13lb in both a TS and a SP01 Shadow, and found it a bit too light for slightly warm factory loads. 15 lb works best for me for IDPA/IPSC type shooting, and 18lb for precision bulls eye shooting (I shoot this version strong/single hand).

The advise above about trying the guns out first in stock form is very true.

Im shooting Fiocchi and Magtech ammo 115 and 124gr.  The pf is in the 130 and I think around 1200 fps.  From all the research and responses to my posts I have been told to use a 12# in the Accu shadow and a 13# in the Tactical orange sport.  I figured I would start with these and go from there.   Any opinions?

I think you will get best advise from the gun itself, at the range. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks.  I will.  My main concern is frame battering.  From what I understand the Fiocchi and Magtech is not real hot loads.  Its just range ammo.

You won’t batter your gun’s frames with those factory ammo. I had shot my TSO with factory ammo with  a 10# a 11# recoil spring without any problems. Right now, it has a 10 # recoil spring since I’m using my reloads which is around 130pf.

Keep an eye on the muzzle when you shoot. If it dips too much, you’re over sprung. If it flips too much, you are lightly sprung. Adjust accordingly based on this obeservation.

Ill add - TSOs can be a bit tight in the rail at first.. after 100 matches of running a TSO ide suggest:

for a new gun  run the factory recoil spring for the first 1000 rounds
.. and grease your rails and lugs
.. and download mags by 1
.. and use something like uplula to load mags to keep bullet column free and take wear off of lips
.. and tap rounds in mags to rear
.. and polish slide where it rubs the next round in mag

after things are well broken in I like a 10# for 147gr and 11# for 115gr.

So, stick with the 16# recoil spring at first?

Like I stated in my first reply, yes. Shoot it first with the stock recoil springs and then go from there. Change the recoil spring as necessary base on your observation I.e. muzzle flip or dip.

Good luck and enjoy.

If this pistol is primarily a range toy or pinker, the 16#’er will be fine. If you get the urge to ‘tune’ or dial in your pistol, suggest you follow george’s advice and adjust poundage according to ‘flip’ or ‘dip’ tendencies

Most importantly, shoot the thing and have fun while doing so  ;)
