527 Scope Rings Height Question
« on: December 25, 2019, 09:51:14 AM »
Hi guys, I just ordered a new 527 Varmint in .204 ruger. I already have a Vortex Viper HS (30mm tube) 4-16x44 scope I intend to put on it. I am going to buy a pair of the Warne permanent fixed rings next. Does anyone know for sure if Warne's medium rings wil clear the bolt, or should I go with the high rings to be safe.

For what's it's worth...according to the Warne website specs, the mediums in 30mm sit .425" above the dovetails and are recommended for 24-52mm objectives and the highs sit .535" above and are recommended for 50-56mm objectives. What confuses me is if my scope had a 1" tube instead of 30mm, the height specs are the same but the objective size recommendations change from 20-42mm for medium rings and 42-52mm for the high rings...why is that?

Anyone happing to be running this same scope setup on their 527 and can recommend the better rings size?

Thanks in advance!

With your scope it comes down more to the ocular (the eye box) diameter than the objective. If the Vortex scope has a bulky eye piece then you may want to consider the tall rings. On the "RimfireCentral.com" forum in the CZ/Brno section there is a sticky where people list there scope/rings combinations. It's mostly rimfire but there is some 527 information also. It will take some digging though. A 30mm scope has a scope tube that's about 2/10th of an inch (30mm =1.18") larger in diameter than a 1 inch scope. If both the 30mm and 1 inch rings are .425 to the bottom of the scope tube then the center of the 30 mm scope is about 1/10th (radius is .9 inch higher) of an inch higher than a 1" scope. Because the scopes center is higher by about a 1/10th of an inch the objective can be larger in diameter by the same amount.

I have a very similar set up. 204 527 varmint with vortex 6-24×50. I used the warne medium rings and bolt clears scope just fine. Enjoy that rifle, mine shoots flys at 100yds.
