My first handgun
« on: December 29, 2019, 07:37:35 PM »
Hey all,

I just picked up my first handgun. I got a CZ 75 BD, I was able to find one locally used for $450. Its from 1999 and seems to be in solid condition. Do any of you all have any advice for me with my first CZ and first hand gun?

The magazines seem a bit gritty when inserting them, I might have to disassemble and thoroughly clean it out. I'm excited to take it to the range this week.

Congrats. 1999 ... wow...
Anyway,
First advice - disassemble, make a good clean. If you feel comfortable with FULL disassembly, go with it. I'd also remove firing pin, clean it and clean the channel. Put one drop of oil into the channel and dry it with q-tip (do not leave oil inside the channel, firing pin should work dry).
After you reassemble it, do function check. If you are satisfied, go to the range !!!
Keep in mind you may need to replace all the springs soon (all depends how the firearm was used previously)
Good luck  8)

The stock grips were pretty worn out plus a bit too thick for me so I got some cool hand grips from amazon.

Looks nice. I was expecting more signs of wear from 20 years old pistol  8)

Question- The magazine release does not drop free. The only way to remove it is to physically pull it out. Is this expected?

Given that you've replaced the grips, you might want to adjust your grip screws.

1. Clear the pistol.
2. Insert empty mag.
3. Turn the grip screws slightly to the left (unloosen) about 1/8 turn.
4. See if mag drops free.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until mag drops free.

Basically the new grips are squeezing the magazine preventing it from dropping free.

That didn't seem to work :/

Your CZ has the older magazine brake

Replace it with this

Or bend yours so the mg drops free

I thought the newer 75's (90's and up) did away with the mag brake?

The trigger on your BD also looks different than the standard 75 trigger.

This helped a ton! I just bent it inward and now mags drop free. Thanks so much!
