Taran Tactical +4 Base Plates On CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical?
« on: January 01, 2020, 03:20:34 AM »
I am on the verge of buying some extended +4 Mec-Gar base plates for a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical from Taran Tactical since they are currently doing a 30% discount. I heard on throughout the the internet that the lanyard loop on the SP-01 tactical interferes with the base plates. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you fix the lanyard loop blocking base plates?

Can't tell you if you're correct but if the lanyard loop is the issue, just replace it with this.

Could also just grind the lanyard loop down.

Looks like it would be close. At 30% off I'm going to pick up 4 for my Phantom. Worst case I'll grind the lanyard loop flush and cerakote it black.
Edit: It says for mec gar mags. I assume they will work on the 18 round OEM SP-01 mags as well? I know OEM mags are made by mec gar, just want to make sure nothing is different about them as far as attaching the extensions.

Yep, def interferes.  I replaced mine with a flat plug. Grinding is another option but I just think the flat plug looks better and you're left with the original ring if you later want to install it (or sell the gun with it's original parts).

I think you do have to buy the Mec-Gar branded magazines. I know that the factory OEM are technically Mec-Gar, but I think you need to buy the Mec-Gar Specific ones.

Lame. I'm not interested in that case. All my mags are OEM CZ 18 rounders. Not gonna buy different ones for the sake of base pads.

The TTI+4 extensions are designed to work with the 17 rnd MecGar mags in order to fit the USPSA mag length gauge.  With Grams springs and followers I get 23 rnds of 9mm in the mag.

The TTI+4 extensions WILL work on the 18 rnd CZ stock mags, however it’s too long (by 1/8”) to fit the 141.25mm mag gauge.

There will be a gap between the top of the extension and the bottom of the mag well.  With the 17 rnd MecGars there isn’t a gap.

Nice to know! Phantom isn't a competition gun for me, so it doesn't really matter that it won't be legal.

I was really only intrigued when they were 30% off. Another 4 rounds isn't worth $40+ a base pad for me for a non competition gun.

Ya I hear ya, I was lured in by the 25% off sale at CZ-USA and picked up a few for $30 along with the TSO rear sight I fitted to my Stock 1

Hang in there.  They usually have a few sales throughout the year.  I have a bunch of their base pads on several pistols and one of my AR pistols runs on one of their lowers.  Top quality stuff from a great vendor.
