I'm hooked
« on: January 02, 2020, 05:44:02 PM »
I hadn't even shot a CZ pistol a year ago, now I have 2. My SP-01 9MM Tactical has me wishing CZ wouldn't have stopped making them in .40 S&W. It would have been a perfect woods carry. I've looked at the P-09 and I'm not sure it will scratch this itch. I've looked and looked and cannot find a SP-01 Tactical .40 anywhere.
What can you tell me about the P-09? It looks like a polymer framed SP-01. How is the accuracy? What is your opinion of the Omega trigger system? What is the DA/SA pull weight? Is there an aftermarket trigger kit for it? Does it have full length slide rails? Is the firing group the same as the SP-01? From the pin placement in the frame it looks like it may be. Any and all replies welcome.
Happy New Year

P09 is a great pistol.

It does not have full length slide rails.

Trigger pull on 9MM P09 is pretty darned good.  Somewhere around 3&3/4 lbs. SA and 8&3/4 lbs. DA out of the box.

Trigger pull on the .40 S&W is slightly heavier, or was when new.  Not sure about the exact lbs. pull now.

I will tell you that when my wife shot my P09 .40, with hot 135 grain hollow points that make the P07 jump up an howl at the moon, she like it so much she wanted it.  I had to go buy her a pretty satin nickel CZ75 Compact 9MM to take her mind off the bigger P09 .40.

I have a bucket, or so, of CZ pistols.  Right now, when the dogs kick up a stink and I grab a bright light to go outside and look around I grab the big P09 .40 with 17+1 rounds of hotness in it.

Only aftermarket stuff I've put on/in the P09 .40 is a set of talon grips, a nice Olight on the rail and CGW reduced power trigger return spring and firing pin block spring.

And, if you look around you probably can find a .40 S&W steel framed CZ pistol.  I got a CZ75B earlier this year.  I still see P07 DUTY pistols new in the box every now and then at a gun show and they quit making those 8 or 9 years ago.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

M1A4ME, thanks for the feedback. I think I’ll be looking a little more seriously at the P-09 now. I shoot a lot of 10mm So the 40 is an easy caliber to add. How does yours handle 180 grain bullets?

My first CZ was a P09.

I consider it one of the best all-around CZs and I have experience with more than a few of them.

I've never shot anything heavier than 140 grains through it.  My P07 "loves" the 135 grain Nosler HPs and the Missouri Bullet Co. 140 grain (lead or coated lead) bullets.  That's what I had and that's what I shot in the P09 when I got it.

I got an FNS awhile back and none of the slides/barrels for that one shoots that 135 grain load for beans.  It did pretty decent with the Winchester factory 180 grain hollow points (the 5" Long Slide and one of the 4" slides/barrels) so I'm in the process of working up some 180 grain loads for those.  I'll have to see how they do in the P07/P09 at some point.
