barrel bushings with new Shadow 2
« on: January 02, 2020, 08:06:57 PM »
Hi there,

I picked up my new Shadow 2 Black and Blue today (woot!) and among the toys it comes with appears to be a little bag of barrel bushings?

My question is...why?

bonus question: the only difference between the Black and Blue and the all-black Shadow 2 appears to be the grips.  True or false? :-)

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Can you post a picture of these barrel bushings?

What you have are more likely the guide rod/recoil spring bushings as stated by hemiscorpiuos.

The blue and black Shadows are identical except for the grips.

As stated the bag is replacement buffers.   Shoot it and enjoy it.  No idea how long the buffers last, I’m still on the first one 😏.

Thanks for the responses--I'm sure they must be the recoil spring buffers--I was taking an uneducated guess as to what they were.

I still find that a little weird.  How would you know when it's worn out and needs replacing?  What would happen if one broke while shooting?

Yup, those are recoil spring buffers. They’re used to dampen the recoil. If one breaks to pieces, it’ll jam the slide and the gun won’t go into battery. You’ll see it getting compressed and might get torn over time. I replace mine after 5k rounds.

Actually I just noticed they are all various widths.  Why is that?

No idea.  Frankly I’d never noticed.  If you are referring to the front/back thickness,it “might” have something to do with setting the system up for loads with greater or lesser recoil.   Just a guess-I know some shooting sports us every “light” loads to minimize recoil, while other run “heavy” loads to achieve a power factor.  One of our competition guys probably would know..

Yes, they come in various thickness. Some are thin while the others are thick. Use the thin ones for low power factor loads while the thicker ones are better suited for more powerful ammo. Be careful when using the thick ones since it will also short stroke the slide.

Why do shadow IIs need buffers when sp-01 shadows don't. I'm just curious because I have sp-01 shadows.
