The 3/8 thick series 500 steel definitely took a dimple or 3.

About 40 feet. Subsequent pounding with 1300 fps 10mmAuto has left dimples. I'm beginning to wonder if it was A500 at all.

You are right.  I’d question the hardness. I’ve shot 10 mm at mine at 25’ and not had a problem.  44 mag soft point also no problem.  44 mag FMJ leaves a very small dent at 40’.

I have hung AR500 plates in many ways at my backyard range over 15 years. I have found no better way that is cheap, easy and durable than a shepherd hook and single hole targets!

Guessing AR400  It's good for 9mm but not much above that.
