527 walnut stock care
« on: January 10, 2020, 05:04:15 PM »
Has anyone changed your stocks finish from lacquer to boiled linseed oil any another finish?

Also, if you've kept your stock's finish as lacquer, how durable has it been for you?  Does it darken with age?

My stock is decent but doesn't have a lot of character.  I was thinking of stripping it, rubbing in thinned BLO and possibly staining a little darker.

Thanks for any input.

My 527 has a nice grained stock but, I have a 550 that seems to have a thick finish although it is trying to show some grain. I haven't fully decided to strip and refinish because it shoots so well and I have finally learned that if it works, don't fix it. ;)
