First time shooting my Shadow 2, some issues
« on: January 11, 2020, 11:49:07 AM »
Hello guys,

Yesterday I went to the range to shoot my new Shadow 2 and of course Im in love with the pistol but I ran in to 2 issues I will like to resolve.

1- the slide is not staying open after the last round. I am pretty sure that is not a gun issue, I reload all my ammo so it could be that those rounds are not hot enough and the slide spring is for factory ammo. Now, any recommended spring that is lighter? pounds?any preferred brand?

2- The way I grab my pistols my grip goes over the magazine ejection button in the Shadow and because is so extended it poke my hand an even hurt after a couple of mags, is there a way to remove that and leave a regular mag release button? Maybe a smoother button. Im not in competition right now so fast reloads is not something im seeking at this time.

I appreciate any advise, other than that I love the gun.

Congratulations on your new pistol! I think you are spot on with the issue of the slide not locking back after the last round. If you are not familiar with Cajun Gun Works I highly recommend spending some time on their website. I think I wound up with a 13# spring on my SP-01, from their kit called tuners pack or something along those lines.

If I am not mistaken, doesn't the Shadow 2 have a "button" on the end of the magazine release? It is held with a small allenhead screw and it can be rotated or removed if you so choose.

Others will probably pitch in with this but maybe my response can get you started.

Congrats on your new Shadow 2...excellent pistol!  As far as slide not locking open on last round are you positive your grip hand thumb isn’t riding down against the slide release/lock lever?  Any time I’ve had that happen, that was always my case :)

Congrats on your Shadow!  Great pistol.   I think you’ll find there are “adjustments” that can be made to Mag release button that may resolve that problem.   For the other, try a few factory rounds- if it still doesn’t lock open either you’re riding the slide release or there’s an issue with the pistol itself.   Mine thus far has been absolutely perfect though about 1k rounds, 3/4 of which are my own reloads.

That has been my case as well and using a high thumbs forward grip. CZ finally came out with a thin/low profile slide stop that solved the problem. If your thumbs are anywhere near the extended slide stop, it can be an issue. Ben Stoeger has these for your Shadow 2.

Nice, there ya go!  I tend to only ride the slide lock right after shooting 1911’s at the range due to resting my thumb on the safety lever til muscle memory kicks in again lol

thank you very much guys for all the input. Definitely my issue is not the slide stop, actually my fingers dont get there when I grab the gun, my issue is with the mag release which Im going to check soon for adjustment. Interesting my gun came with the flat slide release (like the one from Ben Stoeger) installed and the not flat and ambi in a bag in the box, so I guess CZ is now including both, will be nice if the include a less protruded mag release too, well, maybe is just an adjustment that I dont know. I checked the instructions manual but no info about that at all. I will report my findings.

Loosen up the torx screw. Be careful not to strip it. Remove the pad and rotate it to a different position like what I did on my Shadow 2 in this picture.

With an empty magazine inserted into the pistol, does the slide lock back when you manually pull it to the rear?

That's just checking your magazine springs and followers.  I ask because I had some new CZ75B .40 magazines awhile back that would just barely lock back.  Barely?  Pull the slide back and it stayed, but the slide lock was just barely up enough to catch the slot in the slide.

I replaced the factory springs with some Wolf magazine springs that were supposed to be 10% stronger than the factory magazines and then the follower/spring combination would push the slide lock lever completely up into the notch on the slide.

While mine worked, I feared the partial contact "patch" between the slide lock and the slide would eventually damage one or the other due to increasing the stress/wear on a smaller area of contact.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Mine works great with fairly mild reloads, but if your rounds are really light that might be your problem.   Will they work ok in another pistol?

I don't mean to derail the thread, but how's your Primary Machine slide holding up? Would you use them again, if had to do it over again?

I have to do more testing (being pretty busy) but I think is an issue with the factory mags. I bought two 10 rounds mags and they worked fine (last round slide open) but the 17ns from factory still having the same issue. Same ammo used on my 2 M&P's without any problem.

Still dont worked with the mag release issue because cant find the right tork bit, but will do it soon

It’s holding up great! I’ll definitely send another one to them to get it milled. I’d also recommend them to friends and fellow shooters needing work done. Bruce is a great person to deal with. Communication was great and turnaround time was quick.

reporting my findings:

It looks like was kind of "Break-in" because today the gun cycle all ammo and all mags without an issue, last round slide open worked fine too... I think I still need to change the slide spring for a lighter one because the brass was falling on top of me pretty much, I even got it on my face a couple of times (indoor range).

I took the mag release button out as recommended and found out that is pretty much 3 positions which the farther down one it was the best but still poking my hand, pretty annoying. I dont know if I can change that mag release button to the other side of the gun?, or if someone makes a less protruded button or even a button flat without the serrations. If I find a CZ-75 mag release button it should work?

You can remove the roll pin on the mag release button so you can position it anywhere you want to.
