hello everyone and thank you for joining the group. I purchased in Italy a week ago a beautiful specimen (of course I am) of cz 83. The writing on the gun carriage is different from the classic model 83 9 browning and I think this specimen is very rare. I ask the group if anyone can give me an indication of the writing MRI MPLS MN. Finally, the circle seen near the serial number seems to have originally had the "crossed swords" that I have read to be a mark of military weapons. Same for that next to the year 95. Can you help me understand these particularities? the magazines have at the base two holes on the right side and it seems that this too derives from the demilitarization of the weapon that originally had perhaps the "crossed swords" also on the magazines.
Last question the rear and front sights look identical to those of the cz 75 so is it? The rear sight is high from the base 8 mm and 01.

Italian version
Stesso per quello vicono all'anno 95.

I look forward to your contribution to the questions asked :)

Benvenuto, usa google translate.

Thanks Grendel also for the info on the photos. I will use my modest knowledge of English and Google Translate. In Italy such Forums do not exist ..... the homeland of arms is America there is nothing to do

I have seen CZ83 pistols with the military acceptance mark crossed swords, but don't own one.

MRI MPLS MN is the US import mark that stands for Magnum Research Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Thanks for the clarification. Do you also know if the specimens with these writings are rare? I searched the internet in the various videos showing the cz but all of them have the writing cz 83 mod 9 browning made in CZ (obviously extended CZ)

I have not tracked the CZ 82/83 like the CZ 75 (see pinned top post in that club on the Forum) so I can’t make any estimates on their numbers. MRI also started importing the CZ 75B in 1994 into the USA before CZ-USA was established in 1996 as the company-owned importer. I don’t think one can consider the MRI ones as rare or collectible in the US market just for the import mark. The .380 Auto marking is unusual though. It might be more unusual to have an MRI marked pistol show up in Italy though but again, I have no knowledge of how these MRI /.380 Auto pistols turned up in Italy

Congrats on the nice CZ 83. I believe 9x19 Para/Luger is not permitted for civilian ownership in Italy?

Thanks for the reply !! Yes, in Italy the cz83s (but also in Europe I would say) with MRI writings and .380 caliber diction cars instead of 9 brownings are at least rare. I also wondered how a weapon imported into America eventually ended up in Italy. Maybe some US military from NATO bases because no Italian importer would have ordered I suppose weapons from America instead of directly from CZ. Another oddity is that a weapon imported into the USA has the marks with crossed swords on the weapon and on magazines even if they are demilirated with "holes where the swords were crossed on the" magazines "and a bad attempt to cancel by punch superimposed on the" frame " of the weapon on the right side near the year of production and always on the right side almost at the apex near the viewfinder (you can see the circle from the photos).
Yes I confirm you in Italy out of pure bureaucratic madness 9 x 19 is forbidden as well as all expansive balls. But the solution with the 9 x 21 Italico with two mm in puu length of the cartridge case has greatly improved the ammunition believe me especially for those who use it in "open". Even for the purposes of personal defense those two mm more with the doses adapted with the vs gorgeous AA5 make the difference. I know that many American sports shooters today start using 9x21 instead of 9x19.

thanks for the compliments in fact it is a beautiful specimen and in Italy / Europe very rare
